Excellent point (and great analogy). I’m hopeful the varied, dipshitty strains of Trumpism will more or less go their separate ways, back to the pathetic and disappointing, but ultimately not too influential or dangerous, mess of scattered stupidities it occupied before.
Stuff like this is an argument not just for Trump’s petty destructiveness, but for his sheer stupidity and lack of imagination. Just as his accusations against his enemies are naked confessions of his own sins, his actual strategic acts are simply reversals of what he perceives to be the crimes against him. “I will get back at Obama by… canceling and undoing all of his policy achievements. I will get back at Biden by… launching the same investigations against him that were launched against me.” He’s a monster, but he’s also a spectacular dummy.

Why would he need a Vice President? He can be what he’s always really wanted to be all along, which is a de facto king. Mar a Lago will be his castle or imperial residence.
And from this grows the idea of a new American nation, which millions of nutso Americans, backed by countless cowardly and/or radicalized republican politicians, law enforcement officers, and civil servants at various levels of government subscribe to.
