I think that Mcconnell secretly wished Trump would never be elected, but If McConnell had secretly wanted him removed from office last year Trump would have been removed. McConnell would have set up a real trial in the Senate rather than that sham the we ended up with and if he pushed could easily have found another 16 like minded Senators to go along with him to boot Trump out.
