This is it. It’s notoriously hard to delete a Facebook account. Most social media platforms have technically “suspended” the accounts, rather than banning them.
Facebook, in particular, left open the possibility the suspension will be lifted after a month, which is par for the course for them. As soon as the PR cost exceeded a certain threshold, suspend the account, then bring it back when the heat has died down. They don’t want to lose all that juicy revenue in the long term, after all.
I think Trump has been watching the new Cobra Kai! If he said something like “Don’t be pussies, be badasses and grow some hair on your balls” then we’d know for sure!
They can take down the data and preserve it somewhere other than the internet interface. Like take something off a bulletin board and putting it in a box or drawer.
They can put the account on a thumb drive and send it to the “official presidential records committee” or whatever the hell it’s called.
I believe the Trump Presidential Library will consist of a USB flash drive kept in an old Altoids tin in the bottom of a filing cabinet in the basement of the office of the undersecretary in agriculture in charge of bovine scrapings.
They don’t have to and they shouldn’t. If they delete all his posts and they are lost because the President hasn’t seen to having a system in place to continuously download and store them, the President has broken the law, not Facebook.
Hey, that was my idea! I’ve been saving Altoids tins for just that porpoise. I want my shot at immorality immortality, too! Anyway, the tin will be kept in the janitor’s closet at Trump Tower (or whatever they change the name to). Maybe Donnie will wind up being the janitor.
There’s no real requirement that there even is a Trump Presidential Library. His Presidential records are required to be preserved, but it only has to be part of the federal system. Nixon’s library came very late (1990?) and didn’t even house his Presidential materials until this century after some kind of agreement on joint administration of the site with the appropriate federal body.
I suspect Trump hasn’t really thought about it though, and if asked, probably thinks the Federal government or his home state (whether he claims NY or FL) will foot the bill for one - just like he thinks some major airport will be named for him just for the thrill of it. He’ll probably whinge about that as well when they tell him to pound sand if he wants any money for any such thing.
He can, via fund raising or on his own dime, build his library himself, though I suspect any additional funds he raised from his gullible followers are more likely going to line his pockets and those of his defense lawyers.
I’ve wondered before about whether Trump’s tweets will be included in the Public Papers of the Presidents. Now I’m wondering if his speech of January 6th will be included, and what sort of editorial comment will accompany it.
It really is darkly fascinating to me to see how official government history will eventually treat the Trump presidency.
