The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making Part Deux (Part 1)

Likely that would result in a ban from the White House Playpen, eventually leaving only Fox News and other drooling news sources.

Wow! That’s some seriously stupid shit. Idiots!

No, wait! It could be a liberal commie plot ta make him look stoopid. Yeah, that’s it…

True running_coach. I suppose we might as well give Trump as much rope as he wants, and then hang him with it by repeating his idiocy. Not that that’s gonna change the minds of his followers.

Talking to my 17-year-old daughter and her friends (some 18 and able to vote), they’re not happy about Biden and can’t vote for him. When I explain that that sort of thinking about Hillary got us Trump in 2016 they stand firm - Biden isn’t progressive enough and they won’t vote for him. I try to explain that you have to select from the people who are actually on the ballot and Biden is clearly a better choice than Trump or not voting at all. Doesn’t change their minds. They are idealistic and won’t vote for a candidate they see as imperfect. They talk about the 1994 crime bill Biden had a hand in passing, though they don’t know any of the specifics of why it was bad. They just know it was bad because they were told so. Just like they believe that Hillary must have done at least some of the things she’s been accused of.

So, no, I don’t think you can count on the youngsters. They’re as stupid, on average, as everyone else.

People that age don’t show up on Election Day anyway.

Then they’ll never vote in an election EVER.

Between kids like this and the whole Faux News alternative universe, it’s like half the country is holding their breath until their faces turn blue. Buncha spoiled, entitled, reality-averse babies.

(Sorry, mattgg, I know that includes your daughter. But ffs …)

I am actually near tears upon reading this.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A new White House-backed ad campaign aims to encourage people who are unemployed or unhappy in their jobs or careers to go out and “find something new.”

The opening ad in the “Find Something New” campaign beginning Tuesday features ordinary people sharing their stories. A companion website provides links to training and other resources.

Well, for crap’s sake-- why didn’t anyone else think of this?? :exploding_head:

And while they’re at it, they should “Be Best!” amirite?

Waiting for them to say that Obama and Biden took their jobs away.

Close!

He blames them for stopping COVID-19 testing:

And golfing on 9/11. Obama’s legacy is certainly tainted now.

I know the White House contributed to this campaign, but AFAICT it’s totally apolitical and overall pretty worthwhile. (The website even lists “Contact Tracer” as a potential new career!)

Yes, the “Find Something New” message is pretty tone-deaf, but IMO sponsoring a career-alternatives campaign (with plenty of links to resources, not just a feel-good message) is one of the things the government should be doing during an economic catastrophe.

[Raises hand]Excuse me, I speak gibberish. I think what Trump was trying to do was draw a parallel. ObamaBiden, during some previous unnamed pandemic (SARS? Ebola? Who knows?) “stopped testing”, so the fact that we’re doing any covid testing at all makes Trump better than Obama.

That was exhausting. I’m going to lie down.

Betsy Devos: All schools should go back for in-person education in the fall. But schools need to plan to do what’s right for their students. But they all need to go back. But they need to individually do what’s right. But they all need to go back. But do what’s best and right and have a plan, there’s no one uniform approach schools should take. But they all need to go back to in-person classes.

So:

  1. Mrs. Keep Your Federal Hands Out of Our Schools is telling all schools they need to go back in the fall.
  2. The head of the federal education department says there’s no federal plan to get kids back safely, and there’s no federal plan in case there’s an outbreak. The CDC knows things, she says.
  3. PRIVATE SECTOR!
  4. Schools should do what they think is best…
  5. As long as they are fully functional and operational and students are putting their asses in the classes.
  6. She thinks COVID flare-ups may only last a few days.
  7. This is what happens when you put someone who has never run anything in charge of a federal department.
  8. This is what happens when you put someone who has absolutely no experience in education in the position of leading our nation’s schools.
  9. This is what happens when you put someone who had never set foot inside a public school in charge of leading our nation’s public schools.
  10. What a fucking shitbird-for-brains.

At any other time, yes, you’re right. But right now, the tone-deafness of the message makes it offensive and insulting. Timing is everything and the timing is all wrong. It’s a distraction. It’s an attempt to locate the pony in an arena full of shit.

I’m getting worried myself because I think I am starting to understand his “mind.” I think he was saying that, and/or, and probably both, that if Obama had tested more for Ebola, or whatever, we would have had as many cases.

Trump got elected on the promise that he would bring coal mining jobs back, rather than provide training for out of work coal miners.

Hillary was pilloried over acknowledging that those jobs weren’t coming back.

It’s akin to the knee-jerk response to dying industries (e.g., textiles, coal mining etc) where you just vaguely exhort the displaced to go get “training.” Never mind that a lot of them are so far along in their previous careers (i.e., “old”) that they won’t be able to start over in any practical sense, or that useful training may not be available, or that they have to earn a living to pay for rent and groceries. It’s a convenient, cynical way of warehousing superfluous bodies to keep the unemployment numbers down.

Not to mention the problem that young people confront when they finish training, namely, no experience. That problem bites harder when you’re 40 or 50.

And how do you support yourself while you’re training?
