I failed one day’s penmanship (being taught by a nun), because we were typing saints’ names, and my name was the same as one but with an ‘a’ on the end. I’d start relaxing and put my brain on autopilot, and I’d start adding that ‘a.’ Had to scratch out the extraneous a’s and made a mess of the paper.
I would have LOVED to have used a typewriter when I took penmanship lessons in second grade.
