America. Putin helped put an unstable megalomaniac into power, and a political party full of religious lunatics who think the end of the world is a great idea. Trump is one wrong mood swing aware from deciding to destroy civilization out of spite.
The NYPD cop responsible for the city’s investigation of Anthony Weiner was a Trump contributor.
Trump won’t care about some deadline. It’s still proof positive that Hillary’s minions bribed the committee.
Moon’s winning the prize would probably be the final persuasion in Chump withdrawing all troops from the peninsula.
Like the average Republican.
THIS is what to emphasize in coverage and commentary on Trump: his massive cowardice. His epic insecurity. His pathetic weakness.
That is what has the potential to undermine him, even with his most rabidly-white-supremacist fans. They want a Dear Leader who is “strong” and “macho” and “never backs down.” So telling them about what a tyrannical asshole bully Trump is just makes them love him harder.
So don’t do that. Instead, point out his cowardice in blaming the Democrats for his own child-abusing policy. Point out his insecurity in constantly claiming to be an Ivy League graduate, or in sending photos of his supposedly-large hands to the guy who coined “short-fingered vulgarian,” or in his continual mentions of his inauguration’s ‘largest crowds ever’ (they weren’t). Point out his weakness in cancelling the visit of a sports team because not enough of the team planned to show up.
There is no shortage of examples. And this is the stuff his supporters will have quite a bit of trouble explaining away.
Fake news! Fake news! It didn’t happen! It never happened! The Dems did all those things! Obama! Hillary! Emails! <fingers in ears> La la la la la la…
Actually, they won’t: it’s all Fake News™.
(Ninja’d even as I typed.)
It’s been a long time since Jeff Gannon of Talon News had credentials, hasn’t it?
No one can live with their fingers in their ears full-time.
Sure, they’ll say ‘fake news.’ But there is so much of it. So many examples of the Dear Leader being an abject coward. So many examples of him being an insecure doofus. So many examples of his weakness.
And it’s footage of him. The footage isn’t faked: all those Trump fans saw and heard with their own eyes and ears, this:
I hate the children being taken away, the Democrats have to change their law…
And some Trump fans will just repeat ‘yes, the Democrats are so powerful, they control the government, they are so mean to our wonderful President…’
But a large proportion of Trump fans know that the Democrats do NOT control the government. They won’t admit it out loud, but they know that the child-separation policy is Trump’s. And they know that Trump is lying like a weakling when he says the Democrats are in control.
As always, it’s not just one thing. It’s keeping it up. Keep showing his fear and his weakness and his insecurity and his sad, sad cowardice. Keep showing it. Keep playing the videos. The fingers have to come out of the ears some time.
I’m not sure that’s the psychology, here.
I’ve spoken with Trump supporters. I’ve been reluctant to bring this up, as I didn’t want to be accused of doing the I’m-Not-Saying-It-They-Are bit; but what the hell.
Their POV: we’re at war. There are, if you will, bad hombres who want to come across our border and Do Bad Things. And there are some folks here who want to wave those enemies of America in. And there are some folks here who don’t.
Now, I know you don’t believe that. But grant, for (a) the sake of argument, and for (b) just one moment, that they believe that. And then ask whether that’d explain all that’s happened so far: they didn’t care when he yammered about crowd size; they’d give him a pass if he said “shithole”; you name it, it’s to be overlooked because the alternative is horrifying — and, if him doing that irks those who’d aid America’s enemies? Well, those people would aid America’s enemies, so that’s just bonus points right there.
And if that’s so, then why would his supporters care about the size of his hands, or his sensitivity about that? Or about Ivy League credentials, or lack thereof? Or about him scrapping the visit of a sports team? He’s trying to keep the enemies of America out, while other folks want to let them in, and ain’t the rest trivia?
I hear you about the fears some white people cherish, of being “overrun” by the non-whites. As a white person myself I recall reading, probably as a young teen, that whites wouldn’t continue to be the majority in the USA; that decades hence, we’d be a minority. I suppose every white person hears that at some point in their development.
And some react with “hell no, I will die first.” But others react with “there’s no way to keep that from happening that wouldn’t also destroy both my soul, and the principles this nation was founded on. So: I’ll adjust. My tribe is the human species, not The Whites, so: I’ll adjust.”
The people you describe are the “I will die first” folks–I get that.
What I’m saying is that even for those people, the truth that Trump is an insecure cowardly weakling will matter----if they are forced to look at that truth time and time and time again.
Yes, they will ignore it and call it fake news, the first many times it’s put in front of them. But as time goes on and they keep seeing more and more evidence, some will…be affected. Perhaps the most virulent haters won’t, but many others will. And even the most virulent haters won’t be thrilled to see Trump’s insecure cowardly weakness highlighted each time it recurs. (And it recurs a lot.)
Ask them how they feel about the question of WHO is paying for The Wall. Trump was supposed to be the Big Dog who would make Mexico pay! But…he was too weak. Too weak. Too weak.
Ask them how they feel about that.
The first one I asked about it said Mexico will pay for it eventually.
The second one I asked said that a border wall won’t actually work unless guys with guns are guarding it; and he then added that, if we actually have guys with guns guarding the border, then we don’t really need the wall. That then sidetracked the discussion, since he (a) doesn’t believe Trump is going to build the wall but (b) does believe that Trump will have guys with guns guard the border.
But the interesting bit — and the reason I didn’t have the enthusiasm to go down that road with a third — is that they both, unbidden, asked me this: who, other than Trump, would be doing more? The first, the one who’d love for Mexico to be paying now but believes Trump will get it from them later, doesn’t think anyone else can get Mexico to pay now; and the second, the one who’s fine with Trump putting gunmen there and doubts Trump will get a wall, doubts anyone else can get a wall.
And so both of them — and, I’m guessing, a third and a fourth — are fine with Trump so long as there’s no alternative that’d get them more of what they want.
I just watched this movie, The Post, and let me tell you, some of the shit in that thing was damn unnerving. There was a line in there about the President trying to shut down the press because he did not like what they were saying. This from the mid '70s, but it spoke to today in a way that really creeped me out.
That’s a classic Trump plan. He lies and says the wall will be paid for within ten years. He has no plan to make this happen beyond saying it will happen. His followers believe him of course.
Trump leaves office. The ten year mark arrives and the wall isn’t paid for. Is that Trump’s fault? No, Trump and his followers will say; blame the new administration.
Certainly I believe it. They are fascists; that sort of rhetoric is classic xenophobic fascist talk.
What they want is to kill everyone on Earth who isn’t exactly like them, as painfully and slowly as possible. They don’t care that Trump is scum, because they are scum. They don’t care that he’s hurting innocent people, because they want to hurt innocent people. They don’t care that Trump is hurting them too, because their hate matters more than life itself to them.
The ultimate goal of a Trump supporter is to be the last fanatic left alive on a world of corpses.
Geez, Trihs, there’s no need to mince words…
Is Der Trihs saying that we should start calling them “Trombies”?
The U.S. of Trump.
The US of Trump is going to nuke its benefactor, which would promise the end of our country and existence in return?
Oooooookaaaaaay.
Trump lives in his own imaginary world, is very impulsive particularly when it comes to turning on his supporters, and the pussy he always sleeps with no matter who else he is in bed with is Bunny the Nuclear Biscuit.
President Chump makes Nixon look like Lincoln.
