Their POV: we’re at war. There are, if you will, bad hombres who want to come across our border and Do Bad Things. And there are some folks here who want to wave those enemies of America in. And there are some folks here who don’t.

Now, I know you don’t believe that. But grant, for (a) the sake of argument, and for (b) just one moment, that they believe that. And then ask whether that’d explain all that’s happened so far: they didn’t care when he yammered about crowd size; they’d give him a pass if he said “shithole”; you name it, it’s to be overlooked because the alternative is horrifying — and, if him doing that irks those who’d aid America’s enemies? Well, those people would aid America’s enemies, so that’s just bonus points right there.

And if that’s so, then why would his supporters care about the size of his hands, or his sensitivity about that? Or about Ivy League credentials, or lack thereof? Or about him scrapping the visit of a sports team? He’s trying to keep the enemies of America out, while other folks want to let them in, and ain’t the rest trivia?

They charge that the “zero-tolerance” policy he has enacted for immigration violations, which has led to the separations of families at the border, constitutes child abuse.

“He is embodying things that so many of us find abhorrent,” Wright, chief author of the complaint letter, told Esquire by phone on Tuesday. “His policies and his leadership are harming children, families, immigrants, refugees, and are so antithetical to everything that is at the heart, of my understanding, of the tradition of our social Methodist values.” …
The final complaint letter specifically addresses Sessions, a member of the Methodist church, and not President Trump. It claims his policy, which has resulted in the separation of thousands of children from their parents, violates the Book of Discipline, including child abuse, immorality, racial discrimination, and “dissemination of doctrines contrary to the standards of doctrine of the United Methodist Church.”

“When I saw the language about child abuse as a chargeable complaint in our Discipline, I knew that’s what is happening here [on the U.S. border],” says Wright. “The combination of [his] power and actions at the border have been concerning for ages, but to me it hadn’t risen to that level of massive trauma yet.”
