Fascists are intrinsically incapable of assessing the strength of their opponents due to the internal contradictions of the ideology and its political narrative. The Enemy is everywhere & oppressive and poised to swallow everything you love ! It is also weak and uncoordinated and the whole thing will topple like a house of cards when strong men oppose it. But everything that doesn’t work right is because The Enemy.
Similarly, Mexicans are lazy but they also steal all the jobs. Jews are subhuman vermin that corrupt society, but they also control everything and are super good with money. Hippies are unmotivated, useless druggies who only think about fucking in the mud, but they’re also the reason Viet-Nam won the war. And so on, and so forth.

I disagree. We should openly applaud them for their bravery in eating in public restaurants, many of which have immigrants and minorities working back in their kitchens who could potentially do all sorts of things to their food, plates and cutlery. I mean, I’m sure the staff at these restaurants are all professionals who wouldn’t do anything inappropriate like that, but is that a view that the likes of Sanders and Miller can rely on?
Problem is, “alt-left” is a term coined to equivocate between the actual openly racist and sexist alt-right and the progressive left. As such, it is a right wing reactionary shibboleth. It doesn’t actually tell us what in the world is actually bothering you, and only came off as you being a right wing “loose cannon,” to your use your term.
I’m glad you took the time to explain your issue was the body shaming. That I can get behind. But not the “alt left” rhetoric. It empowers the alt right when we spread their terminology.
That said, hoping someone falls on their fat ass is often used about people who aren’t fat, so I do understand why someone might not think of it that way. I admit that I didn’t think it was about her looks. But now that you mention it, I see the issue.

Yes, it’s an attempt to claw their way to the moral high ground from the quagmire they’re currently in. I sometimes point out that anyone who opposes abortion but supports the GOP practices of opposing affordable birth control and comprehensive sex education and closing family planning and women’s health clinics doesn’t really oppose abortion; they just want to feel smug and punish women for having sex. And anyone who is fine with the cancellation of CHIP, with Dreamers being deported to countries they’ve never known and which are highly dangerous, and with the current policy of children being separated from their families and shipped off to DeVos-owned private detention centers doesn’t get to claim they care about children’s lives.
