One of my cousins on FB actually had the stupidity to post “There are currently 765,000 separated from their ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY parents” and a picture of soldiers crying and hugging their kids with the caption that read “Imagine how it must feel, the U.S. government separating you from your children with no guarantee you’ll ever see them again.”
Luckily I have some smarter aunts and cousins who called her out on her bullshit (“Thankfully, the majority of those kids are safely with their other parent” and “Those military parents should be commended and thanked, but they chose that profession. No one forced their kids from them.”)
It’s almost as though Trump’s comments about doing away with judges and courts along the border is his way of saying "Fuck the law, the Constitution, and the Courts, immigration is no longer a legal problem but a military problem. They’re “invaders.” If that’s the view, that illegal border crossers are not merely committing a misdemeanor, but are in fact invading hordes, then God only knows what he’s planning on sanctioning the military to do to people who try to enter the U.S. illegally. But do not ignore the rhetoric. And do not ignore what precedent this potentially establishes, and not just for illegal entrants, but for all citizens.
It finally hit me over the past few days that the Trump administration really doesn’t see the immigrants as human. I couldn’t wrap my mind around their attitude and treatment until I realized this. They truly see these people as somehow less than people, inferior and therefore not deserving of basic human rights. It’s not just that they see immigrants as inferior, though, they treat them as if they were not even of the same species.
Trump seems an old-school casual racist:
He doesn’t see himself as a racist because he doesn’t “hate” people of other “races”.
He just feels that they just happen to be inferior.
I predict there will come a day when “Trump tweeted against me!” is an automatic path to political stardom. And even republicans will join in with “You say Trump hated her? She must be awesome. I’m voting for her!”
I truly wish it were the case that you cannot possibly be this stupid; however, I work with two of your ilk (ignorant-ass alt-right Trump supporters) and, like them, you probably actually do believe this BS you, they, and Trump spew.
So to treat these people “from another country” with basic human dignity and to give them basic human rights is to somehow make them “more important” than needy, tax-paying individuals who are ALREADY in this country??
I just had a reverse Poe’s Law moment. I thought this was a funny, obviously sarcastic, on-point comment. Only later did I notice who posted it, and realized they were serious.
Actually, I’m not sure how serious he was, deep down…but that’s a matter for the Mods to decide.
This is going viral now, but this woman, Air Force veteran, Democrat is running for a congressional seat in a deep red county against an ingrained tea party republican. Think she has a chance?
