Hey, here is a new way to deflect attention on the Russian connection! Let’s stop screening people at airports. Granted, a lot of it is “security theater”; however, that does not mean that this is a good idea. Yesterday, I read that many people will get a smaller refund or owe due to his tax plan. I saw this coming a mile off.
To fund this “tax reduction” he wants to increase the capital gains tax. This has been used to manipulate the economy for many years. If you have investments and sell a capital asset you will be paying for your neighbors refund.

Your medical deductions will not meet the minimum to deduct them since he increased the standard deduction, unless they are horrendous. Penalizes elderly and sick.
I worked for IRS and the goal has been for many years to take away the itemized deduction option. No president was ready to lie and get it through by telling people they will have a bigger refund.

Right. Trump wants to Cut capital gains tax by claiming that inflation applies to stocks. So, instead of subtracting the purchase price from the sell price to determine your capital gains like every normal person understands it is done, no, Trump wants investors to deduct the inflation rate because, hey, no fair! It’ll cost $100 billion and the plan is to push it through without consulting Congress. Because, it is all about working families, folks.
Quit defining “working families” so narrowly! You think Schedule D fills it self out? That’s work right there, man! Of course, a lot of folks have their accountant do that work, but they still have to keep track of records and such (unless their broker does that for them). At a minimum, they have to sign the return! Unless the files it electronically, I’m not sure how that works for a paid preparer.

I suspect your typical middle- or lower-class citizen holds no stock outside of retirement accounts. So let’s be fair and apply inflation to savings accounts and CDs.
So when a family heeds the advice so often given and scrapes together some money for an emergency account, instead of just calculating taxes on the interest paid, deduct the amount lost to inflation and tax what (if anything) is left. That’s fair, right?
