The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making

Yeah but here’s the thing. Trump has a thing about coal, right ? And there are two ways to make coal, right ? You can either dig it out of the ground, which is just dead and isn’t coming back and if you believe it’s coming back you’re fucking delusional ; or you can just burn wood. What does Canada have in very large quantities ? That’s right, forests. Now here is the important bit : who has the tiki torches in America ?! Exactly !

So watch your ass. They’ll be distracted by the Reichstag fire for a while, but then they’re gunning for Poland ! And Quebec is… fuck, the Sudetenland maybe ? I don’t know, just work with me here.

Alsace and Lorraine?

Or, as JohnT posted a while ago, Russia really might actually hack to help democrats in some districts, giving Republicans the ‘evidence’ they need to declare the election a sham.

So Democrats scream “RUSSIA’S HACKING OUR ELECTIONS! RUSSIA’S HACKING OUR ELECTIONS”

Russia then hacks elections that Democrats win.

And Republicans claim that Democrats didn’t really win and refuse to certify the elections at the state level, refuse to seat members of Congress, or otherwise refuse to recognize the legitimacy of the elections. This leads to mass protest. In comes the military to put down the “emergency”

This helpful Chicago Tribune opinion piecewill flesh things out a bit more for you.:stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, this idea will probably exposed as completely stupid once somebody points out what it is I’m overlooking, BUT: What if it were US policy to prevent ALL foreign hacking, no matter who the foreigners are for or against?

Because it’s impossible to prevent ALL foreign hacking.

Aye; that’s pretty much my “worst case” scenario too.

I’m sure it has always been a policy to try to prevent foreign hacking - that’s what a national security apparatus is for. But it is Russia that is clearly the most aggressive in its efforts to disrupt our elections process. Moreover, it’s also obvious that the Republicans are deliberately taking a nonchalant attitude because they evidently believe that they benefit from Russia’s interference, either directly by virtue of winning an illegitimate election, or indirectly by being able to claim that the results are illegitimate if they lose.

Extreme, yes, and a possibility that’s somewhat remote, but no longer out of the realm of the possible.

My hunch is that the use of fake news echo chambers on social media is a distraction for something bigger, something that we will observe within the final 3-7 days of the race. Putin’s going to call reverses and trick plays that aren’t on the videotape. I get the feeling what we see in November will be something we’re not really prepared for.

All kidding aside, economic nationalism can, and does, precipitate actual shooting wars. One of the great benefits of the post-WWII era of alliances, treaties, and trade agreements is that it engendered more cooperation. Nationalism breeds one-on-one competition, and rather than creating a large multilateral framework for trade and resolving trade disputes, it is replaced with bilateral and trilateral alliances of countries with mutually shared nemeses. At some point, the domestic pressures of countries push authoritarians, who frequently make bad economic and political decisions, into wars over resources and territorial control, either as just another misguided decision or as a means of recouping losses from other bad decisions they’ve made.

I suspect that may be the plan all along.

Pretty much.

When they’re not saying “womp, womp,”

President #noresponsibility apparently is thinking about shutting the government down before the midterms, rather than after, because Hannity and Limbaugh think he should.

Yeah, Donald, absolutely follow their advice. It’s gonna work out great.

With states controlled by the GOP about to elect Democratic Congressmen in close elections, I think it almost a certainty that the GOP will refuse certifications.

Mark my words: However many D-Congressmen CNN announces Election Night, the number will be less by the time they’re actually seated in January.

$700 billion is a pittance, chump change, a rounding error, when compared with Hundreds of Trillions the D’s want to spend on socialized medicine over the next decades — and that’s not even counting incinerators for the death camps. $250 million is a huge sun, enough to spend over $100,000 per toddler for detectives to track down the toddlers that would-be terrorists foisted on us at the border recently. When are you liberals going to make up your minds about priorities?

I like you

Common mistake. Don’t get to like anyone here. We’re all horrible people. Except me. I’m great.

At being despicable. You’re great at being despicable. You gotta finish your sentences, man.

And I’m not horrible. I’m godawful.

I like horrible people. So you can take your greatness and shove it

Can he even do that? I had thought that a government shutdown was by nature an exigent thing (the exigency being that there’s no money to keep it up and running). Can the President shut it down just because he doesn’t feel like keeping it in operation?

'Cos that seems kinda fucked up.

In defense of their boss, not in defiance of him. Don’t forget that all of these people were appointed by Trump and are answerable to him.

I think this is just the next wall of the cover-up. The Trump administration has already tried to shut down the investigate and convince people that no crime ever occurred. That’s worn too thin. So now they’ll try to take over the investigation so they can control where it goes and how slowly it moves.
