All I’m saying, and even looking at the women in my own life who have voted for Trump, is that their support for him has eroded, is eroding, and stuff like this will continue to erode it. It’s easy to paint all Trump supporters with a broad brush of “they’re all one-toothed mouth-breathing idiots who drag their knuckles when they galumph across their dirty trailer.” But the reality is that a lot of them are just average people, suburbanites who are often low-information voters, but as more and more shit comes out of Trump’s mouth and Twitter feed, they like him less and less. Or maybe they never liked him, but they also didn’t like Hillary, so they stayed home, and now they’re becoming mobilized against him. This “blue wave” everyone’s talking about, after all, *isn’t *happening in a vacuum; it’s happening because of the things the CFSG is saying and doing. Chip, chip, chip…
My point is, his support IS eroding, because people (and notably women) are mobilizing against him and Republican candidates in large numbers right now, and becoming enthusiastic about it. Polling in Congressional, gubernatorial and local races shows this to be true. Tweets like today’s hurt the Republican cause more than passive aggressive racist Tweets, because Republicans need women voters more than they need (or can count on) black voters.
I feel like Trump would’ve done less damage if he had simply called Dr. Ford a bald-faced liar and a nasty drunk. Then his words would’ve been directed at her. Instead the words he tweeted essentially call into question the legitimacy of any sexual assault (or attempted assault) simply because it wasn’t immediately reported by the woman.
The CFSG said “if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents.” Really? President Pussy-Grabber is now telling women their traumatic life-changing assault only counts if there’s a fucking police report? Maybe if he says it out loud enough times, it helps him sleep better at night, but it doesn’t make it true for the millions of women who have experienced an assault.
We have to fight dirty. We have to stomp the goddamned animals in the fucking throats and call them out for being the party of sexual assault that they are.
