The secret sauce of getting Trump to listen to an advisor for more than 3 seconds is to be a fastidious boot-licker. Webb actually knows stuff about the military. He actually has knowledge and he just might try to share some of it with the Orangochump in Chief. I don’t see how this works. But maybe that’s the point. Trump’s Republican loyalists are probably telling him that he needs to have someone - anyone - cover and take the fall for his idiocy - he can’t just be identified as the one making all the decisions.
His thinking might be “I can outlast this motherfucker…”.
I too have forgotten the details, but it was a big deal and my WW2 veteran father would have reminded me. I suspect that at 18, I signed up at the Post Office. Alternatively, I might have gotten mail from my local draft board with the registration paperwork. My high school would have had all the contact info.
The next year in college, I think I had to give them my draft registration so the could let the board know I should get a deferment. It certainly was (and still is) required for financial support. I also remember that every job I applied for prior to 1973 wanted to know my draft status. No idea if they wanted to see my card, but it was in my wallet.
Failing to register would have been a pretty bold act for an 18 year old in 1968. This period article about the 1967 draft legislation points out that if you were found to be unregistered, you were immediately put at the top of the list to be drafted!
Some other person may think that, but Webb is a notorious quitter. For any particular position he takes, he lasts as long as the typical Donald Trump business venture (though maybe that’s a selling point for him).
He quit as Secretary of the Navy after a year. He quit the Senate (well, didn’t run for re-election, but really he called it quits). He quit his presidential campaign. He quit the Republican and Democratic parties.
On the plus side, he said he wanted to slug GWB for asking how Webb’s son was doing. (His son was a Marine deployed to Iraq.) Webb took great offense at the question. Perhaps Trump would say something in one of those terrible cabinet meetings that would cause a fistfight, and the nation would get to see Trump get pounded like a cheap steak.
While the Secret Service agents “accidentally” get in each others’ way trying to reach the combatants.
The association of Trump with cheap steak does trip off the tongue.

Which European country is he a citizen of? He may be able to get Scottish citizenship if they don’t remove the possibility just to keep him out, but the paperwork wouldn’t be just a matter of claiming his golf club with the nice view of wind turbines is his primary place of residence.

I was wondering about that. My older (graduated HS 1973, 1974) and younger brothers (graduated HS 1978, 1980) all registered, but I am a ghost in the system (graduated HS 1977).
