The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making

Another interesting aspect of that deplorable conduct by Gaetz is the question: from where did he get his information about Cohen?

Did the person who offered Gaetz the information, also ask him to threaten Cohen?

That is interesting! Let’s see…who do we know who knows Cohen intimately but is really invested in silencing him?

I thought it was already public knowledge that Cohen had cheated on his wife? Or am I thinking of Rick Gates?

It’s also, probably, worth pointing out that it’s not very useful to threaten to reveal something about someone as an intimidation tactic if you have already revealed that information. If Cohen’s wife didn’t already know that he cheated on her, Gaetz has now already publicly informed her of the fact. With that cat out of the bag, what exactly does Gaetz think he can now hold over Cohen from an extortion standpoint?

Something we’ve learned the past couple of years is that crimes only count if you commit them in secret. You can commit crimes up to and including conspiring with foreign governments and get away with them as long as you do it out in the open.

That’s why Trump’s hypothetical murder takes place on 5th Avenue and not in some dark alley.

the ‘who’ of it - maybe it was Hillary.

For an update on this sparkly national emergency thing, scroll down to where Lisa Desjardins talks about, among other stuff, the three Republican senators who (well, as I type this, anyway) will vote for a block, and only more (R) block would be needed to kill it. The Reps are Maine’s Susan Collins, Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski and North Carolina’s Thom Tillis. I’m not up on Tillis (anyone?), but Murkowski and especially Collins have been dubious (for lack of a better word) in their convictions, in the past, so, here’s to crossing my metatarsals.
If you don’t want to bother with the transcript, it’s at 1:38 in video.

(Some sources are saying the Senate vote comes within two weeks, others say three.)

The real issue will come after Trump vetoes this. Can they get enough Senate Republicans to get 60+ voting for the resolution?

Nancy Pelosi threatened to sic the Ethics Committee on Matt Gaetz -

So Gaetz backed down -
Speaker, I want to get the truth too. While it is important 2 create context around the testimony of liars like Michael Cohen, it was NOT my intent to threaten, as some believe I did. I’m deleting the tweet & I should have chosen words that better showed my intent. I’m sorry.

And has deleted his original threat.

You would need 67 to override in the Senate. That is 20 Republicans. In the House you need 291, which means you have to get 56 Rs onboard (28% of their delegation). Pretty tall order, unless Cohen brutalizes him thoroughly on Wednesday.

No way the veto gets overridden. Of all the Rs in congress there isn’t one set of balls among them.

The comment wasn’t made in public to inform the man’s wife that he was straying. It was made in public to agitate the hyper-partisan trumpeting crowd by pointing out that the man was untrustworthy. Of course that’s some super duper irony going on there given how often and in what manner Tan the Conman himself strays/ed.

If I were she, I’d still rake him over the coals. That’s not even rising to the level of mealy-mouthed fake apology.

These despicable Republican scum continue to outdo themselves. One of America’s two major political parties has turned into a cesspool of loathsome liars, criminals and scumbags. And at least half of the American public doesn’t even realize this.

Calling out these despicable scumbags might be counter-productive, I suppose: the FauxNews couch potatoes would just blame the D’s when they badmouth the villains. Does Nancy Pelosi have the skill and judgment to walk that tightrope optimally? If so, let me applaud her and repeat my nomination of her for a Nobel Peace Prize!

I guess Cohen’s public testimony will start in a few hours. Will it be carried live somewhere on YouTube?

I could not disagree more.

With the “turned into” part. They have been. For awhile. It just took Trump’s presidency to show the truth about the Republican base.

I’m just cynical enough to believe they do realize this, but they don’t care so long as it makes the libruls mad (and they get their $1.56 tax refund).

That’s why I have been advocating the Dems stop trying to placate Donnie Two-scoops’ base and go after the apathetic instead.

I’d like a public hearing where he’s asked “who told you about Cohen’s extramarital affairs?” Maybe he’d throw Trump under the bus. It’d be fun to watch.

I disagree. If someone told my husband or boyfriend ( or the general public), that I had an extramarital affair — I could dismiss it or brush it off. I could confess but lie about the details ( it was one drunken night in Vegas, sweetie. Please forgive me.” ) What would sink me would be the details (it was your best friend and it went on for years), …names and places. I can see how Gaetz’s threat could be effective. And it’s certainly a threat.

Whoever’s being interviewed on CNN right now says he intends to question Cohen about a meeting that hasn’t been made public yet, and that Russia is now fair-game for the hearing.

Gaetz is now milling around the hearing room despite not being on the committee.

Cohen has entered the chamber.
