Gerald Ford, the only President of the United States who was NEVER elected, will be remembered solely for pardoning Nixon. And appearing on The Simpsons.
He will be remembered for more than that. When Nixon quit and Ford took over, the entire country breathed a sigh of relief. The man who had stained the office was gone, and all of his criminal associates with him. There was finally a decent man in the Oval Office.
Thump has stained, sullied, and disgraced the office far more than Nixon ever did. And he does it every day, several times a day. For those who are too young to remember when decency reclaimed the White House, I only hope history will soon repeat itself, and then you’ll know what that feels like.
He’s disappointed a lot of us by being so passive about the misrepresentation of his report. But he does still have a reputation for having some decency and some patriotism.
eta: I don’t mean to damn him with that faint praise, but merely to express skepticism about his overall ability to clean up Trump’s mess, should he be drafted to try. He’s kind of overly-concerned with being non-confrontational, it seems to me.
I love Americathon but that was due to John Ritter and others being funny. Seeing this play out in real life is not as funny and while the president of both has the same penchant for women besides their wives… Moulan from North Korea was Hot! Dang. Life imitating art never seems to work out.
It’s routine business (the US shouldn’t have a debt ceiling in the first place) and needs to be approved. That being said, Trump/McCarthy need to deliver at least 50% of the GOP House votes, and Pelosi can top it off with safe Democrats.
And McConnell can do it all on his own in the Senate.
