Trump tweets that the hurricane story is fake news, which allows Trump supporters to finally make up their minds about whether to continue to support because the story is fake or to support him because it’s a brilliant idea.
This gets even better … when you consider the widespread flooding and extremely late planting season in most of the Midwest, farmers (who mostly aren’t expecting much of a crop this year) could at least take solace in the fact that reduced acres = fewer crops = higher prices.
Until the USDA released their estimates of planting acres over the summer, which actually showed significantly higher acreages of corn & soybean plantings - numbers that most Midwestern farmers flatly don’t believe, since they actually know how much ground they planted. The effect of the USDA numbers was, of course, a tumble in crop price futures.
I’m sure Trump isn’t aware of this, either, but the farmers are irritated enough that the USDA is pulling back on sending personnel to survey acreages in some areas, because the farmers are threatening to deny them access.
As to why the USDA might fudge numbers to dink around with crop prices … I dunno. Unless it’d be to reduce the amount of socialist blackmail payments - oh, um, sorry, Red Blooded American Capitalist Support Payments Of Freedom™️ - that the government is sending farmers to help make up for Trump’s foolish trade wars.
Eventually someone will pwn the President by actually secretly proposing something and then denying it once the President announces it, and they’ll be totally believed because of this history of crying wolf.
Oh God, I know that look. They have totally done it!
I can’t take credit for what I am about to say because another poster, can’t remember who, posted the basic idea. The US and China will both agree to take the tariffs off, and Trump will proclaim a great victory when things go back to being exactly like they were before. He creates a crisis and then solves it
Isn’t that what happened with the NAFTA replacement Trump came up with? It’s basically the same thing but he can take credit for it.
Yup. Same with the tariffs he put in place against our steel industry because in his opinion we are a security risk (I guess he didn’t know about NORAD).
He’s still basking in the glow of having completed the big, beautiful wall that didn’t cost Americans a single dime.
That’s just more evidence that the conservative position is pure apologia. Their billionaire donors want bullshit promoted because that is their interest. But the whole movement is becoming something that can’t interact with people who know what they are talking about.
Press conferences? Can’t do 'em, the logical inconsistencies are too glaring, and they can’t admit they’re lying.
Intelligence agencies beheaded. Science of all kinds suppressed. Reporters branded as Fake News. And now look- the POTUS can’t look other leaders in the eye and defend his positions because they are all laughable bullshit.
The POTUS is no longer the peer of other world leaders. He has to hide from them. America, look at what redneckery and bible-beaterism have done to you!
‘Trump Administration is looking forward to hosting next year’s G1 summit in Mar-a-Lago.’
And he may start talking with Iran. I can see where he will run on replacing NAFTA, working out a deal with China and a getting a new deal with Iran. All things he fucked up. But he “fixed” them, even if they all end up right back where he started. Add his “historic” relationship with North Korea and his fans will be ecstatic about all he has “accomplished”.
Preferably Slim Pickens style.
It just occurred to me – he did know about NORAD, and how the biggest part of its job is to detect planes on their way to drop nukes. I bet he figured that would result in his anti-hurricane nukes planes being shot down by his own armed forces based on Canada having infiltrated NORAD (which is a joint CAN-USA command with #1 an American and #2 a Canadian), so he declared us to be a security risk to his nuke the hurricanes mission. That’s my conspiracy theory and I’m sticking to it.
Speaking of NORAD, I’ve wondered how you guys felt about plans for the FY-12 use a nuclear missile to shoot down Russian bombers with nuclear bombs over Canada.
I wonder if China is just planning to run out the clock, knowing that they will get a much better deal from Trumps successor. It might just be a question of whether they can afford to wait.
I think Trump is avoiding them to protect what remains of his reputation. He’s claimed to be a master at making deals. So he has to avoid situations where deal making would actually occur because if he sat down at a table with his peers, it would reveal how bad he is at negotiating.
And when CNN’s Jim Acosta asked him at his press conference if he believes in climate change, he walked off the stage.
Because Jim Acosta was rude and CNN should be ashamed of themselves for hiring such disrespectful staff.
He’s presidentin’ the way he golfs: mulligans all the time!
How dare a reporter ask questions.
