Article 3 of impeachment against Richard Nixon - the article was based on the idea that Richard Nixon, as president, failed to comply with subpoenas of Congress. Congress was going through its oversight function to provide oversight of the president. When asked for information, Richard Nixon chose not to comply and the Congress back in that time said, "You are taking impeachment away from us. You’re becoming the judge and jury. It is not your job to tell us what we need. It is your job to comply with things we need to provide oversight over you. The day Richard Nixon failed to answer that subpoena is the day he was subject to impeachment, because to took the power from Congress - over the impeachment process - away from Congress, and he became the judge and jury.

I wondered about this too. Trump said something to the effect that he’d have to be crazy to do anything underhanded on a phone call because there are people listening in. Well, yeah, there were people listening on the Zelensky call. But could he call someone without anyone knowing or listening? I read an article recently saying something about trump carrying two i-phones around.

Ultimately any call is routed through either the WH switchboard ; or a private phone company’s switchboard. In the latter case there may or may not be a process in place to record the call itself (by I would surmise the NSA does listen in anyway) but there will always be a log of who called whom when for how long.

That’s pretty much the US right wing as a whole though. You know, how minorities getting any sort of right is oppressing cis white males, how there’s a WAR on Christmas and Christians even though 70+% of the country identifies as some flavour of Christian and Christian pageantry takes place all the way up to Congress, how saying that Black lives also matter a little bit is RACISM and so on. While right wing ideas and actions and even talking points and metaphors tend to be the same all around the world, AFAIK only the American is so fucking *whiny *about it all the time. I mean geez, even when the GOP held the WH, Congress, Senate AND put their guy on the SC (not to mention having a stranglehold on state politics) they kept QQing that they couldn’t do anything because of the bad lefties saying mean things.

I have close family members who say trump is “picked on.” That’s the term they use. For real. When I point out that he’s arguably the most powerful person in the world and that republicans held a majority for the first two years of his term (thus his claims that liberals were somehow stopping him are bogus) and etc, you can see their eyes glaze over as they disregard this information. It does not fit in the Fox-fed world view so must be jettisoned when encountered.

I have at least a couple of coworkers who share my political views so that’s refreshing, but there is one who says it doesn’t matter who the president is, it’s all the same. Oy.

It’s this guy/gal – this is the one who will get Trump a second term. The cynical, low-information, “both sides do it,” “I gotta choose between a turd and a shit sandwich, huh huh” voter. During the phone call, Trump had talking points, according to the source: “Tell Erdogan to stay north of the border."

The term “off script” sounds so much better than “Went fucking nuts and betrayed one of our only allies in the region”

If the ISIS fighters escape, they’ll “go back to Europe,” Trump said Wednesday.

What is likely to follow will look like “ethnic cleansing” by the Turks, according to the senior military source.

“I don’t know how many people will die. A lot of people will die,” the source said, adding they were “sick about it."

So Trump does not give a shit about ISIS, as long as they head over to Europe and kill people there. Thanks for the help, Trump. Europe really has your back now.
