What worries me is that there probably are people in our military who would happily go ahead and commit these war crimes. I mean it’s not like he hasn’t pardoned other war criminals.

For the sake of argument, let’s assume that the assassination of Soleimani is in fact a war crime, and that Trump commits more war crimes by destroying cultural sites, and that perhaps Trump commits other war crimes.
In that case, Trump would be subject to prosecution by the International Criminal Court, and he would be subject to arrest if he leaves the United States. As an internationally wanted fugitive, what country would shelter him? Putin will have no use for him after Trump’s term is ended, and certainly won’t want Russia to provide asylum to a criminal. Saudi Arabia might have some sympathy for him because they don’t care for Iran much; but since they know international relations, I don’t think they’d take him in either. North Korea? Hm… Kim might find him useful as a bargaining chip. ‘Lift the sanctions, and we’ll give you the war criminal!’
If Trump, whom we’ve identified as a war criminal by the assumptions made at the beginning of this post, cannot leave the country without being arrested and tried, then he’ll basically be a prisoner of the U.S. No visiting his beloved Scottish golf course, his other golf courses, or his foreign buildings. He’ll be stuck here. The U.S. will never extradite him. But he’ll still be subject to prosecution for state crimes, if not federal ones.
The only thing he will be able to do, knowing that he’s going down, is to bring on Armageddon and take the world down with him.
As they say, the problem with riding a tiger is the dismount. I always wondered how the whole current administration was going to handle a transition of power. The stunning scale of corruption, malfeasance and incompetence in the Republican party since the Reagan (Reagan - hell Nixon) administrations is nothing compared what the people around Trump have managed.
Probably the best thing for Trump would be if he were to stroke out while in office.
I don’t know what people like Barr and Pompeo are going to do.
Probably retire to a cushy lobbying job just like all their predecessors.
