GW Bush was a lame duck during the last year of his presidency and we all had to wait for him to leave before any real action could be taken, because Congress isn’t structured to lead. Because of that, things had longer to keep getting worse.
The recession didn’t kill anyone. People were stressed out, but that was the full scale of the crisis. That’s not what we’re looking at with this one.
Unless the Cabinet declares Trump incompetent and installs Pence, we’re looking at some who is liable to be worse than a lame duck.

Well, you know, he could have a “nationally televised incoherent, drooling, shits himself, stroke” and be removed from office via the 25[sup]th[/sup], which would be at least a start (though I have no faith in Pence being a more manageable PoS). Then he could remain a more recognizable caricature of Individual-ONE, a quivering mass of orange jelly exhaling gasps of incoherence and exuding endless rivulets of various suppurating fluids, yet still be aware enough to realize the extent of his suffering. And remain that way for years on end, watching people parade past him with pity in their eyes, most of them managing to suppress their gag reflex but barely able to struggle to hide that they are.
