The funny thing is that Trump has been on TV almost every day; more times in the past week than the entire previous three years of his administration. My mother’s theory was that he can’t bask in the adulation at one of his rallies so instead he has to do this.

The federal government is outbidding states on orders of critical medical equipment necessary to aid patients and protect medical professionals from (foxtrump virus), even though (the Cheeto-Faced ShitGibbon) has repeatedly insisted states get their own supplies.
Basically trying to suspend the Constitution. Good luck ramming that through Congress, motherfuckers.
Is the medical equipment that the federal government is outbidding the states on then going to red states? 'Cause that would fit the pattern.

His idiot followers are spinning this as the “deep state” and the Democrats trying to remove our liberties. Don’t know how they can come up with that, considering it is trump’s DOJ, but they have.
Think about this a little more.
Bill Barr isn’t trying to ram anything through Congress. He’s not asking for permission. He’s telling Congress what he intends to do with this opportunity. He will interpret the Constitution in times of crisis as he sees fit, and he won’t stop unless there is sufficient political or judicial resistance to make him stop. He’s floating this out there to see how people react to it.
It’s potentially even more dangerous if COVID begins to make its way around Capitol Hill and substantially interferes with Congress. The president could end up turning this into a power grab. And given the increasing likelihood of a massive economic downturn and a terrifying health scare, that possibility increases substantially.
Trump won’t be bothered by that; his style is more to pressure Pence to resign. 'I regret that my bad task-force leadership caused so many deaths during this pandemic; if only I had followed the wise advice of this good, good man, Donald Trump. But the responsibility is 100% mine, and mine alone.’
Odds are Trump would make it worth Pence’s while; he’d sign over a tiny part of his own rake-off* on the many deals now being made with pharmaceutical companies, protective-equipment makers, etc.
Then Trump could get himself a more exciting running mate. Win-win!

He’s not asking Congress for permission to do shit. He’s telling Congress what he intends to do with this opportunity. He’s putting this out there to see how people would react to it, and he’s also putting it out there to get Republicans on board with the idea.
Look at the response now. The Republicans aren’t working with Democrats on the stimulus bill. They don’t intend to work with Democrats in a bipartisan manner. They will do whatever they can get away with, tell whatever lies that people can be led to believe.
Not quite sure what to say about that press conference. Trump seems mostly unable to address the questions put to him, so it felt like some Kabuki dance where everyone was going through the motions. At one point he was rambling on about how he sacrificed billions to be president, almost as if that would justify big payments to his hotels through bailout money, but he didn’t quite go there and instead kind of gibbered for a minute while everyone kept a straight face.
Asked about helping foreign countries fight the virus, he stepped into his role of Wartime President, battling the virus. So, to make himself seem more heroic he hyped the virus, claiming he was preventing “tremendous death, tremendous death” in these other countries. The virus that is loose now, threatening mass casualties and dropping us into an insta-depression- suddenly super duper deadly if not for Trump saving them/us from it :smack:
