On January 24, Trump praised China and President Xi Jinping for the country’s “efforts and transparency” in dealing with the coronavirus. That praise came nearly a month after the country informed the World Health Organization about the virus.
When asked by CNN’s Jeremy Diamond on Saturday about his previous praise, Trump said he thought the country could have warned other nations sooner than it did.
“Because China has worked very hard,” he said. “China was transparent at that time but when we saw what happened, they could have been transparent much earlier than they were.”
He went on to criticize what he said was China’s waiting to tell the US."
Even imagining the pretzel logic of Trump’s “mind”, this one counfounds me. They were transparent until they wern’t transparent and they were transparent in the beginning but now they are not and it’s all Obama’s fault.

The interaction starts about 1 hour 12 minutes in, and Pence’s response is at about 1 hour, 14 minutes, 5 seconds. Reporters are asking Trump about availability of equipment including ventilators, and whether US facilities (such as closed-down auto plants) could start making ventilators.
Trump throws cold water on the idea that any factory other than existing ventilator-factories could be converted to make ventilators. He says that the problem with the idea is that “a ventilator is a machine, a very complex machine…a very sophisticated heavily computerized machine, and delicate.”
Then he calls Pence over to answer when a reporter presses to get the number of ventilators available now and when more will become available, and Pence says: “manufacturers tell us that a ventilator actually isn’t a very complicated piece of equipment.”
Look at Trump’s face. He is pissed.
