Latest Gallup poll has Trump matching his highest job approval rating. People are fucking idiots
To those polls, I will say this the weakest, most pathetic “rally around our President in a time of crisis” ever. The Bush’s were in the 90s, FDR got elected 4 times, Trump can barely break 48%.
The only thing that will end Trump is total disaster.
The only thing that will end Trump is total disaster.
I really, really don’t wish it on the USA[sup]*[/sup], but with that kind of guidance from the administration, all things point to that outcome.
*) I REALLY wish it would make poof and both nightmares, Trump and the virus were gone…
He’ll stick with what’s working: “This would have been a lot worse without me.”
Hmmm, Senators Tammy “Watch out 2028” Duckworth and Dick “Minority Whip” Durbin. Rep Raja “On MSNBC Often” Krishnamoorthi. My dialing finger can rest.
What am I missing? 60% of Americans approve of his handling of this crisis. He is up among Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. I can’t blame it all on his rabid base. Not only do we get a pandemic and a depression but apparently it will also guarantee his reelection. Not only that but the pandemic is going to hit worse in urban areas which means it will destroy the liberal base. When people realize that they or their parents will be suffocating to death because there aren’t enough ventilators, will they canonize him? I just don’t understand how anybody could think he is doing a good job, let alone 60% of the country.
Cuz the really bad shit hasn’t hit yet. And I suspect most people, who don’t really pay all that much attention to who’s doing what, attribute what’s happening as a result of their governor or mayor to the president. They likely think these schools being shut down, and restaurants being shut down, and gatherings being shut down, are Trump’s doing.
“It would have been a lot worse without me in charge. I handled it perfectly.” - Trump’s successful re-election slogan.
“Everything I do is a success. That’s why I’m so successful!” - Trump backing up his slogan.
I have nothing to add, and just want to +1 it.
In terms of specific things trump has done, said and plans to do, every fucking thing has been wrong and self-serving. As usual, he’s put people’s lives to the back of his mind (if they have any place at all), and his own self-image at the front, perhaps even more blatantly than usual.
What more does he need to do to look incompetent?
It’s a million miles from the kind of decisive leadership and hopeful, community-inspiring messages a nation needs at a time like this.
Thy think he’s doing a good job because they WANT him to be doing a good job, as the alternative is too horrible to contemplate. It’s normal human psychology.
The good thing is, it wears off.
This is predictable and hasn’t anything to do with Trump. People tend to flock towards the Father Of The Nation when they’re scared and don’t know what to do - someone doing them to do a thing, anything is reassuring. Every big crisis produces a bump in presidential approval.
And not only that, but this big crisis still can’t get the guy over 50%.
The bad news is, he probably only needs 45% to win re-election, and the socialist who refuses to go away and keeps banging his drum about what this country really needs during a time of crisis will only divide the opposition that much more.
You can’t necessarily look at past metrics to gauge Trump’s chances going forward. Trump won with historically low favorability ratings - in fact they were even lower than the opponent he defeated to win the presidency. And it’s rare to have a president with an approval rating over 60% anymore, even when there’s relative peace and prosperity.
Trump could win re-election with just 42-44% if he can spread out the vote in just the right places, and suppress the vote in others. They’ll employ a county-by-county approach, just like they did last time.
The way to ensure Trump loses - probably the only way - is to let him fuck up so monumentally that the country is enraged. That is the only way to ensure this human scourge called the republican party is vanquished.
Keep in mind that Trump has had the microphone all to himself. Sure, Andrew Cuomo is pushing back, but that’s not the same as a single Democratic response. Shoot, even the nightly comedy shows are off the air.
Things might be different when the campaign starts and Biden is reminding everyone every day about Trump’s incompetent handling of the crisis.
Unfortunately the wearing off involves a lot of dead people, to say nothing of a tanked economy.
That is happening anyway.
Sort of reminds me of the CEOs of the big financial institutions during the sub-prime mortgage crisis. “Of course, I deserve a huge bonus! Without me at the helm this would have been soooo much worse.”

Hopefully this will be the start of a trend.
