Living with family who are devoted Trump supporters requires some mental gymnastics, and this ultimately comes down to some perspective. What would you do if you were living in 1930s Munich and your family were rabid supporters of Adolf Hitler? I would love them, but I would also understand that Jews would probably hate their fucking guts and hate anyone who enables them. They were in no position to see it any other way, not when they’re literally running and hiding and fighting for their survival. It was ordinary people who voted Adolf Hitler and Nazis into power, on the strength of growing, unchecked antisemitism and clannishness.
Let’s be clear about something. We’re seeing that dynamic today, right now. Maybe you’re not seeing it as clearly being over there, but trust me: it’s here now. There are people who have died as a result of MAGA voters. Like you, it’s complicated for me because I have family whom I love and I can see the whole person instead of the sides of them I don’t like. But that’s my perspective and just mine alone. If I were a DREAMER, if I were the mother a child asylum seeker who died in a cage, if I were an Asian American who just got the shit kicked out of him because someone watched Fox News and concluded that COVID-19 is a China virus, if I were a Muslim whose culture had been smeared, if I were a mother about to lose food stamps that feed my family, and if I understood that voters voted for Trump precisely because they wanted their president to make these kinds of changes, I would harbor very ill will toward them. I would see them as a threat to my existence.
Trump seems more concerned with blaming Obama and the Democratic governors for everything, claiming that he knew it was a pandemic all along, ranting about the whistleblower and Navy captain, bragging about his press conference TV ratings and what a fantastic job he’s done (now saying 100,000-200,000 deaths would be a “good job”), promoting unproven drugs, berating reporters as “nasty” (especially if they’re female) when they ask a question he doesn’t like, hoping the NFL will start on time, almost encouraging people to attend church services, contradicting Fauci and Birx about isolation and masks, writing a bizarre letter to Schumer, just plain lying (with the possibility he’s losing/lost it mentally and actually believes what he says), and etc…
And all that was just at the end of this week, I think.
Trump cannot stop himself from making statements about ‘what’s going to happen’ that are based purely on his own wishes. But that’s the sort of thing that is going to wear away at the devotion of his fans. He gets their hopes up—again and again and again and again and again and again—and each time, what he stated or implied would happen, does not happen.
He is really testing their ability to doublethink away his incompetence. Some will meet the test. But others–after enough evidence that he’s full of shit–may start to fall by the wayside.
Yeah. And at this point, I suspect he may have gone beyond his belief in being Emperor: he really, truly does believe what the evangelical ministers tell him when they lay hands on him in the Oval. He really does believe that he is the most glorious, awe-inspiring, special-est supreme being in the universe.
So naturally he can decree when there will be new football games to see on his 60-inch LED!
Here’s the thing: I don’t believe they have to doublethink away his incompetence, because when his predictions/promises don’t happen, IT’S NEVER HIS FAULT! He is doing his best but <fill in the blank> is/are standing in his way, undermining him, conspiring against him, sabotaging him, betraying him, etc. If only Obama, Hillary, the Media, the latest official to be fired, Nancy Pelosi, that Michigan woman, Andrew Cuomo, Joe Biden, and/or the Easter Bunny would stop interfering, then he would be able to deliver on all of his golden glorious promises.
I don’t know if his worshipers will ever believe it was HE who failed to deliver.
Christ almighty. Smapti is a useless and malicious asshole. Wishing for the collapse of the US health care system would be comic book supervillain territory, were it coming from anyone remotely competent. Ideally his ass gets banned, but failing that, can we stop responding to him as if he has anything interesting to say?
Well, sure, if we define Trump Worshiper as someone who can always find someone other than Trump to blame for Trump’s fiascos and crimes, then: sure. They will never waver.
But think how mentally exhausted they will be in a few weeks. Trump is going to go on promising things and asserting that it’s Obama’s fault Donald did nothing about the Strategic National Stockpile for three years (HOW?) and all the rest. And it will all be bullshit.
It’s enough to give a double-thinker’s hard-working brain a stroke.
Excuse me? I’m not the one sitting here, wishing death on people simply because I disagree with their political beliefs. If that makes me a “Nazi apologist”, so be it.
:dubious:
I don’t want anyone else to die. Even fucksticks like Trump. I just want him out of office and to go away for good so I never have to listen to his ignorant bullshit again. It’d be a riot if the consequences weren’t so dire.
You took Asahi seriously.
Not a good move.
Every single thing he says should be taken with a de-icing, road clearing, truck load of salt.
He’s the very epitome of the guy that freaks out and puts the rest of the team at risk. He’s the “GAME OVER MAN” dude in Aliens.
