Dr. Fauci just publicly called the liar-in-chief a liar. Who’s the new infectious disease guy now?
What gets me is why this doesn’t piss off the magats. If he did, in fact, know all along that it is a pandemic, then he intentionally, cruelly, and maliciously lied to the public about it being a hoax. Plus, why the fuck would you keep such knowledge a fucking secret?
The dude is doing his best to head for a crimes against humanity trial without even being involved in a shooting conflict.
The worst is that he is promoting taking medication prophylactically. It’s one thing to advocate use for known cases, especially when nothing else is working but it is another thing entirely to tell everyone to take it to prevent disease. There are no studies on prevention, there are definite side effects from long term use, and that is a sure way to guarantee a shortage should it prove helpful in treatment not to mention keeping it from patients who need it. I haven’t even mentioned the fact that in promoting long term use of the antibiotic azithromycin he is accelerating the development of resistance which could make it ineffective if it turns out to be a beneficial part of a treatment regimen. There is already a lot of resistance from overuse to the extent that I can no longer prescribe it for pneumonia because of high resistance rates in this area.
His worshippers are Charlie Brown and he’s Lucy. There’s no hope for them.
Be mindful that to understand a Trump supporter’s “thought process”, for lack of a better term, you must abandon logic and memory. What the Lying con man says right now overrides what he said yesterday, and obliviates what preceeded it.
Because they never hear about it! Does FOX news tell them that trump was wrong and changed direction? No. Does Pat-Lady-Chemicals-Robertson tell them that trump is ever wrong? No. The MAGAts don’t watch/listen to reliable news sources, because Daddy told them CNN, MSNBC, WaPo, and NYTimes are liars and fake news. He is the only source they believe, and if they do find out that he has changed his mind (BWA-HA-HA!) on something, well that just proves how brilliant he is. They have the Kool-Aid running in their veins.
Those are touching sentiments, but I’m not really swayed. Sorry.
He’s not going to just go away on his own - that’s the obvious conundrum here. People wish he would just go away, wish that the country would just have better leadership.
Who puts these corrupt sociopaths in power?
More importantly, why do they put them there?
I’d rather people achieve enlightenment through some basic curiosity on their own - no disagreement there. But absent of that, if it takes a crisis to change their perspective, and if personal experience of pain and suffering is the only thing that will cause the paradigm shift, then bring on the pain and suffering. The sooner we can all agree that it’s better to live in a science-based, fact-based world, the better off we will all be.
This pandemic is not the worst crisis we will face in the next 10-25 years. The climate crisis will make this look like child’s play.
Of course they know. They don’t care, Monty. Don’t you get it?
They are willing to pay a high price to make America white again – as long as they aren’t the ones who pay the price.
That’s what I’m trying to hammer into everyone’s skulls here (not literally of course).
So back to my point, Fox News is their reality. Rush Limbaugh is their reality. Their conservative world of Facebook conspiracy theorists is their reality. And for many people, nothing will change that. But for some people, for some who just might be persuadable, maybe a little dose of ugly reality will change the way they see the world.
Come on, we’ve all had negative personal experiences that have changed how we view the world around us. I used to be pretty goddamn libertarian and had much less sympathy for people who lived in the poor house until I found myself laid off from a job when I was 27. That was painful then, but it gave me a much needed ice bucket of water in the head on the morning. That’s really my point here, not that I actually want people to be stuffed into trains and carried off to labor camps. I’ve never advocated that (okay, I did once say we might need education camps a la Chairman Mao, but I’ve backed off of that a bit).
ITYM asahi. Plonk him. You’ll be glad you did.
I think is more along the lines that Trump had heard something about hydroxychloroquine being effective. Knowing his propensity to latch on the first thing he hears, he has decided this is the most effective treatment.
His toadies are falling in line with him, mostly because the worst sin one can possibly commit is to contradict The Dear Leader.
I still wonder how long Dr Fauci[sup]*[/sup] will last, but I think even Trump knows what a mistake shitcanning him would be.
- Am I the only one who keeps wanting to call him Dr. Faustus[sup]+[/sup]?
- Just for the similarity of the names - I am reasonably sure Dr Fauci has, in fact, not sold his soul to Mephistopheles.
Looks like it’s Rudy:
Giuliani, a familiar voice in Trump’s ear, promotes experimental coronavirus treatments
Agreed. It’s nothing as blatantly corrupt as Trump owning stock in whoever it is that makes hydroxychloroquine; it’s just another example of his sunny optimism, based on no evidence, but intended to prop up the stock market and his own approval ratings. If he keeps saying things like “back to church by Easter” and “very promising treatment” and “NFL season will start on time” everybody will love him.
But who the hell invited Navarro into the situation room anyway?
Yeah, go ahead, plonk away.
People here are wishing things would change. I’m sometimes guilty of wishful thinking myself, but it doesn’t always work. Sometimes people just need to see things with their own eyes and experience things in their own minds before they really understand what’s at stake. I wish that weren’t the case, but life experience tells me that people are like that.
His Easter promise is looking like a case of premature resurrection. All that kept the corona clusterfuck from being a full taco platter was the absence of Gu911ani. Not to worry, Rudy Colludy is now sharing corona cure misinformation. With boy geniuses Donnie, Jared, and Rudolph on the case, what could possibly go wrong?
Are you kidding? What could be more Mephistophelean than the preference of empiricism over received knowledge?
Oh shit. That’s what I meant. My apologies, smapti.
If anyone is interested in hearing Acting Sec of Navy Modley’s address to the USS Teddy Roosevelt’s crew, it’s on SoundCloud, here. It’s quite a thing. Especially the peppering of "what the fuck"s heard from the crew while listening. He goes after Crozier, he goes after China, he goes after the media. I’m left, once more, thinking what the reaction would have been if Obama had had an acting Sec of Navy who had pulled this kind of shit.
There is a rushed transcript here.
Clearly the virus is smarter than The Donald.
That’s what I replied to the tweet. Very cathartic so I figured I’d let someone here have the joy as well.
