He’s in the Reserves and is serving his required time this week.

(Judging from the look on his face when the press corralled him on Tuesday, I’m pretty sure he called his CO that night and begged them to let him serve for the next week until the furor dies down. Which it won’t.)
He’s in the Naval Reserve or some such. Spicey was/is off serving is annual duty time at the Pentagon. I can only imagine he’s happy as a clam at high tide.
