The last couple of months, in addition to Coronavirus statistics, the other numbers I’ve enjoyed watching daily are thread lengths in the Pit.
The Stupid Republican Idea of the Day thread was started on March 26, 2009 - 11 years, 2 months, and 4 days ago. In that time it’s garnered (as of this moment) 44,505 posts.
The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making thread was started on December 6, 2016 - a mere 3 years, 5 months, and 24 days ago. As of right now, it’s pulled to within a mere 500 posts of its elder.
Who would have thought that the Clusterfuck would be more than 3 times as potent as all of Republican stupidity combined? And it’s not like Republicans have stopped doing stupid things on their own since December 2016. And, of course, this doesn’t count the supporting Butt-Hurt Trump Takes to Twitter Again, How has President Trump pissed you off today?, and other threads.
I feel confident that the Clusterfuck will surpass the Stupid Republican Ideas before his term is up. Go Trump Go!

Yeah, from '09 to '16, the Stupid R’s Thread was always my favorite thread. But all of a sudden, no one was posting there… ahhhh, because the bigly-est Stupid Republican Of All was sucking up all the outrage.
Like Matryoshka dolls or that place in the Bible that lists the begats. One arose/emerged/urped forth inevitably from the other. Oh for the day when they and all threads discussing “him”* slither back into the primordial ooze.

Honestly, a thread full of his gaffes (and how he’s hilariously out of touch with his local bus driver) would seem so… non-dangerous by comparison.

I have shared these thoughts before, so brace yourselves:
Gerald Ford wasn’t the brightest bulb in the box (he once tried to eat a tamale without removing the corn husk first), but the whole country (including Republicans) heaved a great, audible sigh of relief when an honest, sane man took over from Nixon. I see something like that happening.
People complained that Obama was TOO cool, TOO smart, TOO well-dressed, TOO professorial. The man had NO skeletons in his closet-- not personal, professional, or financial. WTF?? There was just the matter of being a non-native-born, mixed race, Muslim terrorist. No big deal.
Joe Biden is not too cool or too perfect. He’s a regular, well… Joe. He has suffered. He has had major losses in his family. He makes mistakes. He puts his foot in his mouth. But he can admit when he’s wrong (maybe not all the time, but does anyone?) and he can apologize. The president of the United States is ALWAYS going to be a target for blame and discontent, but I’m looking forward to a normal level of blame and discontent, not the batshit-crazy, destructive bullshit that trump has been generating at an increasing rate every day. Yes, looking forward to non-dangerous days ahead.
It looks like COVID will be a threat for the foreseeable future. Racism isn’t going away. The economy, especially small businesses, will be hurting for a long time. Millions of people still don’t have or have lost their health insurance. Many environmental protections have been removed. The country is still fucked in lots of ways, but I’d like it if the U.S. Government itself started working for us again and ceased to be a clear and present danger to its citizens in the future.
Talking to my Mom and she got one but my dad, who is the primary, is in a rehab center. Is it an automated system, where she can enter his SSN. She does have power of attorney, if she gets an acutal person on the phone, but that won’t help, she would have to go to a bank
I tried to call the number myself and it seems like it is all automated but I could not get past the main menu because I did not have the card number, and could not get someone on the phone. Tried all the usual tricks, entering 0, entering a bunch of random numbers, tried asking for a representative. My Mom is 77 years old and dealing with the problems with Dad being in rehab and having to take care of stuff like getting new tires on the car as well as worrying about him, and she has to deal with this shit getting a card activated.
I am hoping to get an answer soon to my question, and maybe it will be simple for her to just call up and enter the card number and his SSN, and that will be it. But goddamn these motherfuckers, or should I say “this motherfucker”, for all the stress they have added to her already stressful life.
And my Mom does have a computer, and knows how to use the Google machine, I can only imagine what it is like for those seniors who don’t know how.
How about $20,000 for everyone with zero interest, and nothing for companies like Boeing, which have made billions over the years? Should they not have money in savings to get them through bad times, just like all of us are supposed to have?
Let’s say you have a job for years, and you get laid off. OK you can get unemployment for 6 months. What if you still can’t find a job that pays what you were making, and you take a job at McDonalds. You then go to the government and say, “Hey, I can’t pay my bills. Give me some money.” Government says, “You’re fucked, you were supposed to save money for hard times.”
Fuck Boeing, if they can’t survive with government help, let them go out of business. They ain’t the only airline in town.
Several years ago, I went through SRIotD to map the posting frequency and found that there were significant gaps, some as long as three months between posts. I have not examined Clusterfuck, but it would surprise me if there was even a full day between posts. And, well, the utter outrage and disgust that ShitGibbon inspires is especially high, generating a lot of activity and venting.
Not to be pedantic or anything, but Boeing is not actually an airline.
My gut feeling is the protesters would beat the holy bejesus out of the MAGA filth.
