But Judge Emmet Sullivan has no illusions about this. I think his goal is to draw attention to just how irregular and contrary to the rule of law Barr’s actions were. Legal types already have their jaws on the floor (or should), but the larger community in the country probably doesn’t quite realize how much Barr has perverted it.
Judge Sullivan is also going to force Trump’s hand to issue the pardon. It will highlight Trump’s ongoing abuse of his office as well as how Trump advocates for 2 tiers of justice: One for him and his cronies, one for the rest of us.

I’m OK with this. It’s inevitable that Flynn will never see the inside of a jail cell. But I’d rather that be because Trump got a nasty slap-down from the courts (I like the phrase “stinging rebuke”) and had to resort to perversion of the pardon authority (which we already knew he was willing and able to do) than because Trump and Barr managed to subvert the justice system.

The Army said that it was open to discussing the renaming of army bases named after Confederate officers. Seems like a reasonable thing to do! (And I was moderately surprised that they exist…but Bragg and Hood were rebel traitors, as it turns out.)
