Looks like it’ll go to his campaign, the RNC, and 22 state party committees.
So, that breaks down to
$2800 individual contribution limit to Trump campaign * 2 = $5600
$35,500 individual contribution limit to RNC * 2 = $71000
$10,000 individual contribution limit to state party committees * 2 * 22 = $440,000
That adds up to $516,600, so there’s another $64000 floating around somewhere. Probably that’s getting accounted as $32000 a seat for the actual expenses for the event.
What is actually going on in Seattle is that the Mayor has created a 6-block “autonomous zone”, a safe space for protesters to protest.
Clashes between police with tear gas and flash bangs were escalating, so she removed the aggravating factor of law enforcement. Since then, AIUI, it’s been like an extended block party (NBC).
The sticking point is that a Seattle Police precinct is within the zone and they’d like their building back. This issue is being worked out between the protesters, the police and local government officials.
California was never an independent country, in anything approaching a viable and reasonable definition of the term.
A few people raised a flag and declared themselves independent, without ever receiving any recognition from either of the belligerent nations in the war between the United States and Mexico, and without even having any firm control over the immediate region around their headquarters.
I think George Tays put it quite nicely in a short 1936 article for the California Historical Society Quarterly:
On the subject of Trump accepting defeat: picture a normal Inauguration Day. The departing president and first lady greet the incoming couple warmly, shaking hands, smiling, posing for pictures. They proceed to the Capitol, and the departing president watches as the president-elect takes the oath and listens attentively as he delivers his Inaugural Address.
Yes, Trump did is part to make the military better by NOT joining!
Now I’m having visions of Biden raising his hand, … taking the oath, … then FBI agents immediately grab Trump, handcuff him, and escort him off stage and to a waiting car to be processed…
Hey, everyone has to have a summer daydream, don’t they?
It will be more like scene from Godfather. While Biden’s swearing in ceremony is under way, FBI agents are entering the Mar-A-Lago compound to seize computers and materials, meanwhile Trump’s plane has been prevented from take-off and everyone aboard is being taken into custody in handcuffs by federal authorities.
As I recall learning about that phase of California history, the Bear Flag rebels were a group of American businessmen in California who saw their financial interests being best served if they became part of the United States.
Very soon after proclaiming the Bear Flag Republic, they entered into negotiations with the United States to submit to becoming an American state. This suggests that the United Stated at least implicitly recognized them. This became part of the process that led to California joining the United States.
This, presumably, was those businessmen’s intentions all along.
If that story is correct, I see great parallels between that and the history of Hawaii becoming a state.
