Wouldn’t the next question then be “What did Mr. Comey say that you believed would make him hope your conversation wasn’t being recorded, Trump?”
And I do hope whoever is questioning him does refer to him simply as ‘Trump’.
Heck, why not just ask him, “Well then, why did you tweet about “tapes” at all if they don’t exist? Were you trying to intimidate Mr. Comey?”

The investigations could at least ask him officially if the White House had any tapes of the conversations with Comey. Then he would be on record that the tapes either exist or he was bullshitting.
I remember John Stewart thanking the comedy gods when Trump first started running for election.

It looks like the House and Senate committees have made requests for both the Comey memos and any audio recordings of conversations, if they exist. We’ll have to see what the response is regarding the tapes before any subpoenas might be considered.

And yet, when asked today if there were any tapes, he refused to answer, just said there would be an answer upcoming. If there are no tapes, why not just say so?
