The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making

“I am the world’s greatest person that does not want to let people into the country.” Who talks like this?

The funny thing is that Trump, if he were a more canny politician, could actually have made considerable hay out of the Australia deal. It is, i believe, one area of policy where the US would be fully justified in saying, “We don’t want those refugees.”

As an Aussie ex-pat, and an Aussie citizen, i think the way that the Australian government has dealt with the refugee issue has been appalling. Conditions on Nauru and Manus are terrible, and the government has both fuelled and responded to the worst sort of nativist sentiment on the part of some sections of the Australian population. The deal to ship over 1,000 of these people to the United States was nothing more than Australia failing to live up to its humanitarian obligations.

If Trump had understood this issue, i believe he could actually have dealt with it in a way that would both keep his support among his anti-immigrant base, while also not alienating further the people who oppose his tough border rhetoric.

He should have made clear to Australia that dealing with these refugees was Australia’s responsibility, and that the United states was not going to take on a whole bunch of people from the other side of the world just because a wealthy and sparsely-populated nation couldn’t be bothered dealing with them. Keeping them out would have played to his base, and emphasizing Australia’s own obligations would have got some support from liberals and lefties like me. I think the United States should do more to help in global humanitarian crises, but i don’t think that it should shoulder the burden alone, and countries like Australia need to do their part.

Of course, i also think that Obama should have said the same thing to Turnbull last November, when they were negotiating the deal.

Trump.

Yeah, I am the next-to-furthest thing from an expert on this deal (Trump is the furthest), but it sounds like these people are really being screwed over.

Is there any validity in the boat argument? That should probably go in another thread, I guess.

See, any sentence that begins this way, well, you know.

The conversation with Turnbull is jaw-dropping. Turnbull is, apparently, a good businessman and smart guy. He starts by giving Trump a gift, shaded advice on how to spin the prioritization of Christian refugees.

Throughout, he explains his position clearly and lays out a compelling case. Trump basically refuses to listen- he can’t comprehend the gist of the argument (which is that the refugees in question have been denied entry to Australia in order to shut down the smuggling operation but the refugees themselves are not the problem.) and keeps insisting that the refugees are criminals.

And like always, as soon as Trump starts frothing at the mouth he starts blathering about his electoral votes.

Turnbull ends the call with the baby firmly but politely before it falls apart.

WOW

It’s what happens when Trump goes up against a real businessman, not a pre-screened sycophant. It’s even more cringeworthy because they are so close in outlook, the difference is competency.

They gave him all that money, plus the White House, and thought they wouldn’t get fucked over?

That’s always been the pattern with Trump. You get nothing, you lose your shirt, he gets over, and that’s that. One big grift. The Russians are just the latest suckers.

But, the clown car may stop soon (I hope) …

Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury in Washington to investigate Russia’s interference in the 2016 elections, a sign that his inquiry is growing in intensity and entering a new phase.

And Congress is already moving to keep Trump from firing any more investigators - ever again.

Mooch was apparently having a relationship with Fox news bleater Kimberly Guilfoyle.

“Stone, a friend of Guilfoyle’s, explained that Scaramucci and Guilfoyle are very close friends but nothing more.' He added, He is way too short for Kimberly.'”

snicker

The poor bastard can’t catch a break can he? I swear, I’m anticipating Scaramucci Found Hanging In His Closet any day now.

You know, the meter of that phrase would fit very well into Bohemian Rhapsody. Until now, I’ve just heard his name, followed by “will you do the fandango?” or something like that. But you have the whole phrase right there!

All he had to do, was say “No I won’t take the job.”

The Secret Service has vacated their command center in Trump Tower due to a lease dispute. You can’t make this stuff up!

I hope one of them dropped a cherry bomb down the shitter before leaving.

I hope one of them ate at Chipotle and didn’t flush.

You mean the hemp fandango?

The Orange Bozo makes the best deals! Double their rent and kick them out if they won’t pay.

Besides how can you make private calls to the Russians with the Secret Service so close by?

If they are located outside the building, it’s probably easier for Melania to sneak around with her boyfriend.
