Trump’s batshit crazy ramblings about people tearing down statues of George Washington actually made me think: I’ve never seen a statue of Washington or Jefferson, outside of Washington DC. I suspect that there are five Robert E. Lee’s for every George Washington around the country. Is there a database of public monuments that we can check?

Which reminds me, I had a thought; how about removing the Confederate statues and replacing them with statues of George H. Thomas and David G. Farragut, Americans born in the South (Virginia and Tennessee respectively) who did not deviate from their duty to their country and remained in Federal service (and both were truly superb and courageous leaders). So you have Civil war statues of famous military men…just not the ones most think of…
I was choking my way through that word salad SteveG posted (thank you for posting that, by the way), and I literally LOL’d at this: “Reporter: Are you against the Confederacy?” A ridiculous question to be asked during a POTUS press conference. But it’s truly mind-boggling that it’s not even out of line. After the shit he’d been saying up to that point, that was a totally legit question! Let that sink in: In 2017, a reporter asked the President of the United States whether he was against the Confederacy, and it didn’t seem fucking out of place.

There are two sides in this argument. You’re totally right about that.
One one side is decency and civilization. It’s the side that has a lot of people, not all perfect, not all in agreement, not all even fantastic people. But they are trying in their own way, most of them, to make the world an okay place.
On the other are the Nazis, their collaborators, and their Quislings.
