The SPLC did a study on all monuments honoring the Confederacy (as opposed to monuments documenting the Civil War). The PDF contains more details including a list of the 1,503 public symbols. I count three Lee statues, one statue of Lee and a Confederate soldier, three Confederate monuments with multiple generals including Lee, three Lee monuments, one Lee sculpture (Why is it called a sculpture and not a statue? No idea.) for a total of 11 monuments. There are an additional 200 (give or take) Lee days, schools, municipalities, and roadways. It’s possible that I missed some; e.g., other than Stone Mountain I don’t know which entries marked simply “Confederate Monument” contain images of Lee.
Lots of news reports come out that make Donald Trump look bad. A whole lot of people will rush into comments sections and say “Whatabout Hillary?” (Okay, it’s normally “Hitlery,” which has its irony, but close enough.)
I don’t see those comments and think “Gosh, this person really doesn’t like what Trump did and wants us all to be clear about that.” I think “Gosh, this person really, really wants to change the subject.”
Maybe you really don’t like what the Confederate Nazis are up to, but I don’t get that from your posts. I get that you really, really want to change the subject. (And I think you are hoping and praying for an excuse to bring up Hitlery.)
I could be wrong. I hope I am. It would be lovely to think that there is one less apologist for white supremacy than I thought. But consider my breath unheld.

sometimes things are clearer when you change the perspective, so let’s say:
You and your family have bought a beautiful suburban home. One day you realize the statue on the front lawn ( left by former residents ) is Osama bin Laden. So you and your family decide to get rid of it as it does not represent your values and ideals. However, there are some alQaeda-thugs living twenty blocks away saying that they won’t let you do it.
So you say: “This is our house, we don’t want this statue, and don’t you come here, we don’t want you here.”
They show up anyway and are armed. You and your family go outside and they start insulting and threatening you… and then happens X… resulting lots of bruises and one of your kids dead.
Now tell me what this X must be that you would say: “Both sides were equally guilty.”
And did that X happen in Charlottesville ?
