Interesting to see how Republicans react. They would be screaming bloody holy murder if Obama made a comment like that. (You know, “apology tour” and all that garbage.)
Donald Trump doesn’t believe in American exceptionalism and he is certainly doing his best to prove himself right!
…ya know what I think Trump’s next move is gonna be?
They are going to dig through the top-secret records to “find dirt” on Obama, and they are going to release it. Just to prove that “America is not so innocent.”
And misinterpreted by Republicans in particular to have said such a thing. Until Republicans came along, Russia was still very much still the Evil Empire. Now suddenly it’s all kittens and cookies.
You know how they gave President Obama the Nobel Peace prize just for not being Bush? I wonder what they’ll give the next president for not being Trump.
So now Trump is agreeing with critical-theory political scientists, neo-Marxist human geographers, and leftist historians that the US post-colonial hegemony continues earlier incarnations of the world system in which the US intervened militarily and in less overt applications of power to further its questionable goals in cahoots with unsavory local leaders, perpetuating violence, socioeconomic inequality, and loss of human rights.
The only possible spin I can see the current administration putting on this incredibly dangerous/ignorant statement is that (and this is a YUUUUUGGGEEE stretch) it fits Trump’s original “Make America Great Again” narrative.
“Hey, America ain’t so innocent!” = America Ain’t So Great, so we’re going to make it innocent again!
