I’ll admit, while I voted for Hillary, I initially wasn’t extremely worried about the threat of a Trump presidency. Here’s why: His ego.

I really thought that, if he was elected, Trump’s ego would not want him to be reflected on as one of the worst Presidents in history. Now, by no means did I think he’d undergo some sort of 80’s-movie “training montage” and quickly become the Best. President. Ever. But, I really thought that he’d realize he needed to temper his views to become more moderate and reasonable.

His ego is the problem, no the symptom. No matter what the facts are, his ego itself has him believing he’s the best at whatever.

I didn’t take into account two things - his capacity for self-denial,

I misunderstood that the first few times I read it. I get that you mean his denial of what he is really like. He certainly lacks the capacity of self-denial in the sense of doing what’s right for other people.

and that he would surround himself with some of the worst people to grace this planet.

No kidding! When I first heard the names he was touting, I thought, “Not even the dumbest 'pubs in Congress would go for that”. Sadly, they have.

So long as they have his ear, they can reassure Trump that, regardless of what the media or other prominent figures say, the people love him and they can push their agendas on him, claiming that it’s what the people want.

You know that Trump doesn’t need them telling him that. He’s telling himself that. In the face of clear and incontrovertible evidence, he’s still saying he’s the one who won the “real” popular vote.

I had the foolish belief that, as a businessman, he’d delegate most, if not all duties, to other parties. I was terrified of a Pence shadow government, but I thought Trump would at least have a little control over him, so as not to be looked down upon poorly in the annals of history.

Wait. You think Trump’s a good businessman?

After these nominees, these executive orders, etc., I think the country’s best hope is to get Bannon out of there (I have no idea how) and get someone more reasonable to be in his inner circle. I think that’s the only way to make these 2, 4, or (god forbid) 8 years even remotely tolerable.

Hopefully I’m correct on this: Putting this jerk in the White House is the death knell of the Republican Party as currently constituted. We’ll see in two years.

Can someone give some examples of deception used on a global warfare scale, either present or past? This divide of Trump-supporters vs non-Trump supporters has widened at an alarming rate, with the subtle side effect of it diverting our attention inward and among ourselves. What advantages could an outside force use with that distraction?

If true (and to my mind, it’s a big ‘if’), then I’m torn.

One half of me would love to see her take over.

The other half would want her to decline and tell the whole Republican party to stew in the juices of their own making. They would still be nothing but obstructionist to Hillary and she would essentially become their personal whipping post. Screw that. Let them twist in the wind.

I read this afternoon that Trump already has 50 lawsuits filed against his unconstitutional, illegal executive orders. So many people to hate and fuck with, so little time.

Predictable. Pretty soon there won’t be anything left of the government that isn’t for spying on people, persecuting people, imprisoning people, or killing people; since those are the only things Republicans consider valid functions of government. A government built only for malice.

Today one of my social media acquaintances posted something about using the Church of Scientology vs IRS strategy against Trump: Sue him personally and the government for everything anyone can come up. En masse. The idea is to keep them distracted enough that they can’t do anything.

I haven’t stopped to consider the ethical implications, but I am curious to hear if something like that is even possible.

USDA abruptly purges animal welfare information from its website

The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Friday abruptly removed inspection reports and other information from its website about the treatment of animals at thousands of research laboratories, zoos, dog breeding operations and other facilities.

In a statement, the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service cited court rulings and privacy laws for the decision, which it said was the result of a “comprehensive review” that took place over the past year. It said the removed documents, which also included records of enforcement actions against violators of the Animal Welfare Act and the Horse Protection Act, would now be accessible only via Freedom of Information Act Requests. Those can take years to be approved.

The records that had been available were frequently used by animal welfare advocates to monitor government regulation of animal treatment at circuses, scientific labs and zoos. Journalists have used the documents to expose violations at universities.

Animal welfare organizations quickly condemned the removal of the information, which they called unexpected and said would allow animal abuse to go unchecked.

“The USDA action cloaks even the worst puppy mills in secrecy and allows abusers of Tennessee walking horses, zoo animals and lab animals to hide even the worst track records in animal welfare,” said John Goodwin, senior director of the Humane Society’s Stop Puppy Mills Campaign, which uses the federal records, as well as state inspection reports, to publish its annual “Horrible Hundred” dog breeding operations that have been cited for welfare violations.

Trump has had so many lawsuits filed against him he probably sees them as nothing more than junk mail. He’ll just hire more lawyers at our expense and continue to ignore reality. Although, that may be his strategy to create jobs.

How would that work exactly? I get HS is probably being tongue-in-cheek, but the only mechanism I can see would be:

1. Paul Ryan resigns as Speaker.
2. The House elects Hillary as Speaker (Speaker does not have to be a Rep).
3. Pence and Trump either resign or are quickly impeached.
4. Presidential Succession takes over and Hillary steps in as POTUS.

No need to involve Ryan. Just have Pence resign, and appoint Hillary to replace him. Then Trump can resign and Hillary can take over. It’s already happened exactly that way, with Nixon-Agnew-Ford.
