I know a couple on FetLife who are into that – and they’re anti-tump too!
It’s not torture. At least it’s not torture in the same sense that American interrogation techniques such as waterboarding are not torture.
I love it. They are going to DC, but make it a point to snub Chump.
Some of the more clever ones want to cripple or dismantle the government, so they won’t have any regulations or laws interfering with their business and political goals. What better way, than to fill the top ranks with the very worst people possible?
Starve the Beast, Baby and Bathwater, etc.
I want fire. And then burn the corpse. And then burn the ashes.
They are just “enhanced interrogation something or other”.
Besides, Trump loves torture. Remember his remarks about torturing and killing the families of whoever he was blaming for something. And his “cops should rough them up” comments.
Give him a healthy dose of his own fucking medicine.
And THEN fire. Lots of fire.
Trump destroyed the USFL. Will he be able to do the same to the NFL? Judging by the amount of righties on FB whining about how they will no longer watch, given this afternoons kneelings, he may yet do it.
No chance.
Oh those poor little snowflakes, they haz their feelz hurted.
He only destroyed the USFL because he was part of, and for some unknown reason they listened to him. The NFL has always taken the smarter path of giving him the finger and ignoring, and made billions from it.
They like watching COLLEGE football. They don’t have professional football.
Maybe. There’s more than one way to destroy an organization, as Trump obviously knows. Break that brand loyalty among the right group of influential fans and that could start a slow decline the NFL will never recover from.
Radicalizing players & CTE… the NFL has some serious problems.
:dubious:
Well, if the perception that cops can kill people often without facing criminal charges was not enough to “radicalize” NFL players, is allowing them to take a knee during the national anthem really gonna be what puts them over the edge?
It seems the opposite to me.
It seems that allowing them to express themselves might be something which let’s off steam from the pressure to “radicalize”.
Is there evidence that preventing these folks from expressing their objections to their perceptions of government actions somehow makes them not take issue with the issues they perceive?
Off-hand, to me as a layman, it seems preventing them from expression would make them more likely to “radicalize”.
But many things in the world are counter-intuitive to the layman.
How does the progression from concerned citizen expressing themselves to “radicalized NFL player” go?
What else can we do to keep from having “radicalized” players in the NFL?
Are there other things we should prevent them from expressing—prevent them from expressing publicly anyway?
eta:
Do we have a working definition or “radicalize” in this context?
Is taking the knee during the national anthem the definition of “radicalized” and I just didn’t get the memo?
Wow. I’m curious now, too: do we have a working definition of “radicalize” that JohnT is going by that the rest of us could take a look at?
Radicalize:
-
Doing shit that I disagree with.
-
Keep doing shit that I disagree with.
-
Keep doing shit that you have been doing for a long time, but now that I know about it, I disagree with it.
Trump thought he could exploit a wedge between fans and players (most of whom, it need not be said but I will anyway, are black). But he did it in a way that assumed that the owners would be on his side. He was wrong…just like everything he says and does, because he’s an incredibly stupid little man.
He basically guaranteed that every black player is going to take a knee now, if not in support of BLM or whatever just in support of their teammates that Trump is calling “sons of bitches”. If they don’t protest then they will look like they’re standing because Trump ordered them to, regardless of whether they really feel like protesting or not. And the other players will presumably want to support their team members regardless of race.
The best for the USA would be for Trump to be punished to the full extent of the law. Jail time/fines great. If nothing is not prosecutable fine. I want him out and to live a life of obscurity where no one will look at him twice or listen to him once.
I’m curious to see where Fox as a corporation goes with this one considering the many billions of dollars they pay for the rights to air the NFL. Are they going to Squelch the apologism for this one now that the Dotard’s Deplorable are calling for a sponsor boycott.
