Wasn’t DT a Democrat before Obama became President?
And your point would be…?
Historians are going to look back at 2 pivotal decisions that shaped the course of 21st century history:
Trump’s embrace of Birtherism as the vehicle that would take him to the White House; and Obama’s ensuing ridicule of Trump at the Correspondent’s Dinner.
And readers of history are going to say “Naaaaahhh…that can’t be true.”
Someday, somebody is going to write a tell-all book that will describe Trump’s post-Dinner reaction. I’m picturing a Robert DeNiro-style rant: “he’s dead, I want him dead, I want his family dead and his house burned to ground…”
That Trump switched parties because the Democrats had the audacity to nominate a Black man for president. At least that attitude of his played a part in his decision to switch.
Okay! That was a helpful explanation (and not immediately discernible from your post). Very interesting, in fact.
I thought he switched parties because democrats kept laughing him out of primaries. He switched to the party that would embrace him.
I don’t get this sentiment. Trump didn’t run because Obama was mean to him. Trump didn’t get elected because he was roundly, and rightly, mocked. He’s a petulant child, supported by a Republican party built on pandering to idiots, making the rich richer, and screwing over anyone different from them, not some kind of anti-hero giant woken from slumber by some richly deserved mocking at a dinner.
Political cartoonist Ann Telnaes has proposed a new logo for the GOP, after the RNC decided to go ahead and support Roy Moore.
WHOA!
Depressing and hilarious at the same time. ![]()
GOP=Good Ol’ Pedophiles.
The Republican party seems to be playing a game with the public: lef’s find out what’s so outrageous that will make you not vote Republican. And too many of the public continue to answer, “Not a damn thing”.
It’s like a massive Milgram Experiment.
ETA: Only, instead of fake shocks being given to an actor, the shocks are real and delivered to the test subjects themselves.
Oooohhhh, thats easy. Bill Clinton. And much much more than either.
LBJ would be up there too. On the other hand, from what I have read, even his allies hated him. He was a first rate asshole.
Not true. If they were to express any sort of consideration about gun safety, or the rights of a woman to have control over her own body, or call for the wealthy to pay their share, they’d get booted out instantly.
Sexual harassment and pedophilia in their elected leaders is a feature, not a bug. If you are the sort of person who likes hitting on underage kids, or sexually harassing your employees, who would you vote for?
She needs to have the elephant’s tail playing with a boy’s crotch. Then the logo would be accurate.
Bill Clinton.
I disagree. I think Trump always wanted to be president; but what lit a fire under him, what drives all his policy decisions is the simple, single sentiment: I’m gonna get that fucker.
Al Gore, too. And John Kerry. Basically every Democrat with enough power to be an existential threat to them. Race is real but ancillary to party.
However, LBJ was also a first-rate politician; as was Bill Clinton. America has tolerated it’s share of Presidents with…doubtful…morals throughout it’s history, if they had the political skills to navigate the waters. One of the fears about Trump is that he has all the political skills of the Captain of the Titanic (IMHO).
I’d also suggest it started with FDR, who was considered a ‘traitor to his class’ and roundly despised for his four terms in office, not to mention the Republicans wanting to 'Destroy the New Deal" long before Obamacare.
Good point, also the term-limit amendment for Presidents (but not Congress members) was passed by them in a brief period of control, essentially just to spite a dead man.
