The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making

I’d like to see that!

Here’s the link to the clip I mentioned yesterday. The relevant comments are a bit past the 8-minute mark of the 12-minute clip:

What if we spend it on other border security stuff, and let him call it a wall. Will that work for you?

Hey, short of voting against spineless politicians, I cant stand in the way of anyone that wants to help Trump fulfill campaign promises through lies.

And I feel the exact opposite of you. WE ARE sacrificing long term goals by allowing a criminal moron to remain in the Oval Office. We CANNOT allow this to be the new normal at any cost. It has to be shown that having a criminal as the POTUS will simply NOT be tolerated.

We are not allowing. We are doing what can be done through legal and legislative means to remove him from office.

I am not sure what else can be done through legal means. What are you suggesting?

I’ve found myself in shitty positions before, where there are no good options, only less bad options.

This is that sort of situation. You can either go with a shitty option, because the other options are even shittier, or you can simply refuse to accept the situation, which doesn’t do any good.

I’ll suggest holding him to his lunatic promises and not enabling him. It’s easy.

The motherfucker is in office. Hold on to your shorts, I’ve got news: He’s likely to be there 3 more years. The question is: What are you gonna let him get away with while he’s there? Are you going to do it for him, in the name of gullibility?

We could build a human wall. One person could cover ten feet of length. With the structures that are already there, accounting for four shifts and absenteeism, a Wall-force of around nine million people ought to be sufficient. If we cannot find Americans to do the job …

So this would be the finals in the International Red Rover World Championships?

We could, I guess. Or, you know, we could be fucking sensible and actually get a win on DACA in exchange for committing to money for repairs to and maintenance to existing border structures that have to be maintained anyway, even though I know that hurts your little ideologically pure heart, because winning goddamn political battles are more important to you then almost a million young people who are going to be deported because their parents brought them here when they were five as well as 250,000 Salvadorans and Hatians who have lost Temporary Protected Status. But you know what? The party can make an add showing a little boy and girl who miss their deported mom and then blame that on Trump. I’m sure that would just be devastating. So, hey, win/win, right?

What am I suggesting? Back Mueller and the constitution. Do NOT allow him to pass anything that his racist bigoted misogynistic anti-environment followers have. That takes congress. Congress only cares about being reelected. Do not vote for ANY republican until they get the hint.

Yes it’s shitty. WE, the people of the USA are his landlord. As a landlord you look over your property and other tenants. We currently have a criminal in the building, and the way to get him out is either impeachment, or the 25th. NO quarter. None at all. If you can’t get rid of your bad tenant by legal means, you sure as shit don’t support anything he does. THEY NEED TO GO.

trump has history and history of ‘complying’ with the law. He breaks it and bullies or bribes his way out of it. There is NO indication that this will change. And I don’t care if he is manipulated to do something good. It is only temporary appeasement and a horrible horrible precedent for it just to happen again.

NO QUARTER. I don’t care if he gets angles wings and a halo. He needs to be gone.

Are you sure you live in the same country that I do? With the same people?

:dubious:

How many thoughtful movies were big hits at the box office in the past 6 years? Ya know, movies like All The President’s Men or *Network/i] or The Big Chill?

What’s the most popular (and profitable) movie genre right now? Superhero movies. Do you think a population that willingly and enthusiastically supports movies about people in leotards fighting monsters, such that they top all other genres at the box office, is going to make considered, reasoned, informed choices about complex subjects? :dubious: If so, why do you think that? What past evidence points towards your conclusion?

Because you wanna know one other piece of evidence that points my way? Donald Fucking Trump is POTUS.

How do you reckon that the Trump administration will justify nominating a supreme court justice in 2020 after hearing about how there shouldn’t be nominees in an election year?

How does thump deal with any precedents or conventions? He ignores them, does exactly what he wants, and no one stops him. Republicans pretend not to notice.

Much the same way dogs seek out the Tootsie-Rolls in the cat litter box.

My plan to guarantee a Democratic sweep in the midterms: congressional Democrats should heap praise on Trump’s immigration plan. Call it “Trump’s Amnesty for Illegals Plan”, or “Trumpnesty” for short, and say they couldn’t have come up with anything better themselves.

Democrats and Independents aren’t voting Republican this year anyway, and his base will denounce him as a traitor.

Hey now, some of us thoughtful liberals also happen to like superhero movies. They are mindless escapist fun, for when we’d like to stop worrying about things for a bit. I don’t expect any of them to get an Oscar, but I like them. That doesn’t make me a Trump supporter by any stretch of the imagination.

In fact, a lot of those have strong anti-fascist messages. A kid who grows up reading/watching superheroes, rooting for the little guy (like Ant-Man) against the Evil Corporation or Even Eviler Megalomaniac will recognize Even Eviler Evilness in real life.

Worked in my case…

Thank you for this totally relevant data point; I appreciate your contributions to this conversation.

So when you have the choice to make, do you go for the reasoned, nuanced movie or the blockbuster superhero flick?

Who the fuck cares?
