President Pence with a Democratic-controlled congress will be harmless and ineffectual, just warming the chair until 2020 (and if the Democrats don’t control Congress then there will never be a President Pence.)

I’d probably agree that those are pretty close to the highlights of the day from the US perspective, plus or minus, and that the (presumable) negative presentation are deserved, but by virtue of being CNN, there’s not much credibility. More than FOX, but that’s not saying much. Dumping the home page of CNN as proof that Trump is an awful President and human being is as meaningful as dumping the home page of FOX to demonstrate the opposite.

BUT
“By virtue of being CNN, there’s not much credibility” means there IS credibility (IOW true) but not “much,” meaning what? You agree these events happened but you object to the fact that CNN is reporting them? And you’re likening CNN to FOX because–??
Your post suffers from an excess of vagueness and internal contradiction. IOW it doesn’t make sense, does it?

Sage Rat, thanks for that thoughtful response to my post, BUT CNN is reporting bad stuff because it’s true. It’s not selective. Every day this administration shits out one turd after another. And CNN reports it, as **Procrustus **listed in his post–and that was just one day’s worth of crap. CNN isn’t making this stuff up. Thump calls it “fake news,” but it isn’t.
I do agree that there is a lot of editorializing in the way CNN and the MSM report on thump, and I put that down to the deterioration of journalistic standards in general. [Whatever happened to the inverted pyramid style of composition? Hell, whatever happened to subject-verb agreement?] CNN doesn’t hide their contempt for the President, true, but they’re not inventing his crimes and misdemeanors.

I think it’s a matter of “Even if it is true, disregard it if it didn’t come from the correct echo chamber.”

Good point. I actually don’t know which is worse, a president pence or trump. Trump is incompetent, which is useful, as he hasn’t done as much harm as he could have if he actually knew how to navigate the halls of power. Pence isn’t quite as incompetent, but I don’t know that even the current crop of republicans would support some of the more damaging things he would want to do to our country.

OTOH, as you said, and I hand’t really thought of, a Pence president is actually better than a trump president, assuming a dem controlled congress.

I know that this is the Trump Administration thread, but to be honest, the biggest story about this spending bill should really be the way that Republicans, who were so concerned by government spending during the Obama administration, are happy to spend like drunken sailors now that they can determine where that money goes. Discretionary spending under this budget will be, even after inflation is taken into account, higher than in any year during Obama’s second term. And this spending will all happen in an environment of significantly decreased revenues, resulting from the billionaire boondoggle tax cut.

Some of the Republicans who were most outraged about all the spending happening on Obama’s watch are the same people who are actually in a position to do something about it now. Perhaps the biggest hypocrite is Paul Ryan. The title of this article says it all:

It’s part of the whole “Starve the Beast” idea they’ve been pushing for decades now. They have the idea that if they can get the government in enough debt and crash the economy hard enough, the government will have no choice but to cut the evil social programs they hate so much. They’ll be able to strip the government down into the pure instrument of malice and domination they want it to be.

The fact that it’ll cause immense suffering in the process to tens of millions of people is just a bonus for people like the Republicans.
