As someone from one of the countries in question, it’s really quite a turnaround.
Australia has typically at the least made a public and performative gesture towards supporting idiotic US military adventures, since WWII. But this time - while Australia is providing some quiet passive support - we are not doing anything public, active and directly supportive of the US in particular. We are helping UAE to a token extent, and we have always helped with intelligence.
The reasons no doubt include deep Australian voter antipathy towards Trump’s US; the obvious folly of the entire adventure; and I suspect a feeling that Trump is losing his home support and so angering him isn’t such a concern.
She also famously said, “Oh, what fresh hell is this?” which has become part of my daily vocabulary. Especially with Mr. Trump as President.
(I must say, that I did like Dorothy Parker’s, “If all the girls from Yale were laid end-to-end … well, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised.” Kind of made me want to visit Yale.)
Which is odd, because Yale didn’t start accepting women until 2 years after Parker died.
