The Republicans have been blatantly evil for decades now; I don’t think anyone who voted for Trump or any other Republican in 2016 deserve any forgiveness. A vote for the Republicans is a vote for hatred, cruelty and tyranny, and has been since at least Reagan. Whatever lies they tell, that is the real reason people vote Republican; they are at war with humanity, and war to hurt and kill as many of us as possible. Just for the sheer orgasmic joy of doing so.
My immediate thought was “A Skyscraper? That’s bigger than any other Presidential Library. What the hell is he going to put in it? “
But, yeah, if he fills it with full-sized airplanes, his Ballroom, and a Theater, it makes more sense. God forbid he should fill it with books and presidential papers. Especially since he tends to burn them.
I said somewhere on this board that the trump presidential library will consist of a couple of flash drives in an old Altoids tin to be be kept in a janitor’s closet at trump tower. That’s more than his record deserves.
In fairness the record of his wrongdoing is going to be pretty big. Floor 1 of the skyscraper will be “Trump derangement syndrome / fake news AAA - AAB”
Unfotunately, capacity of flash drives has increased dramatically over the last few years.
I have more than enough space for his entire legacy on a 32KB flash, with space to spare.
When I first saw that image on him on TV, I thought, “Well, that just won him the election!” It’s a story so well-suited to certain Americans, it changed his whole image, at least for a little while.
Is it? In the days that followed, I was amazed by how blasé most everyone, including Trump supporters, were about the attempted assassination. It was as if nobody really cared and everyone moved on to the next bit of news.
As a lifelong Republican voter, I voted for Hillary in 2016 because it was clear to me Donald Trump was a lying fool who didn’t know shit about shit when it came to running a government. I can’t claim any special insight into his character as I didn’t realize the depths of his venality or his foolishness. I’ll cut American voters some slack in 2016. But they knew who he was in 2020. In 2024, they knowingly voted for a grifting, venal rapist. No slack.
Well, not if you include the Epstein files.
That’s how I “know” the assassination was fake. If it were real, trump would have gone all Hitler after the bomb assassination attempt. He’d still be hunting “conspirators”. I think the base knows it, too, that’s why no one cares, except for a image of trump defiant! every now and then.

None of us knew back how bad it would get and keeps getting. Even now, it’s possible to still be left speechless by the depths he will sink to. And yet, I’m 100% positive he hasn’t reached bottom yet.
Even Dopers were hesitant to slam him too much at first and gave me a hard time when I started the original Clusterfuck thread. Doper asahi was the only one that joined me in consistently ringing the alarm bells. But hey, I’m not bitter.

And this is exactly why your allies will not come back, even after Trump goes away (one way or the other). The US voters have shown us who they are and what they want. Clearly. And this is not going to go away in a post-Trump era.
Your Congress and Supreme Court has also shown the (former) allies that your system of governance is broken, and is now fully in the hands of oligarch billionaires. This is not going to change after Trump goes away.
The mask has been ripped off, and the decaying corpse face has been exposed.
To be fair, a lot of the article responses are either bots or Russians.

No argument there. I figure it will be at least two generations before the US’ reputation will be even approaching what we had. Not just the current diplomats and military, but those who in years to come will be under their tutelage. “Yeah, they seem trustworthy now but lemme tell you what happened back in 2025…”
Like I said a few days ago, even after you’ve gotten the bull out of the china shop, you still have broken crockery and piles of bullshit everywhere. Pax Americana, such as it was, is over.
My wife and I have a trip to Europe scheduled for August. My wife planned it and put it together, and we had to delay it a year.
I suspect we will be spit on. If we can even get through to our flight because of the mess that Republicans have made of TSA.
I don’t think people are that bad and I hope (and expect) you’ll have a great trip.
But, your American accent will be a jumping off point for some people to talk politics though, so I’d recommend just saying you know things are bad and you don’t want to talk about politics.

Nearly a decade ago, I went to Iceland and met some Brits on holiday who had supported Brexit and lamented they didn’t realize there would be consequences for them while I got to one-up their Boris Johnson with our Donald Trump.
Americans aren’t unique in being screwups. But we sure like to do it flamboyantly and competitively.
