Trump lost the allies in Europe and Canada a little while ago with his insults. Now he’s working on losing the allies in the middle east. America first = America alone.

Yes, the great irony. He consistently complains that NATO is a bad deal for the U.S., then realizes he can’t effectively reach the Middle East without European cooperation.

In Trumpworld, a “bad deal” is one where the other party gets something. So the fact that NATO isn’t a tributary arrangement where the other nations unilaterally support the US in return for nothing, that makes it a “bad deal” in his eyes.
Of course, this is an attitude that is incompatible with alliances, and rapidly falls apart as soon as he has to deal with people he can’t bully or con into taking his one-sided idea of a “deal”.
Also, NATO is a defense alliance, not one that is obligated to sign onto whatever dumbass war Trump decides to engage in.
