In addition to Monty’s M-W definition, he was quoting RFK, Jr. [bolding mine]
''The more you get, the stupider you are, and we need smart kids in this country, and we need healthy kids," he said during a cabinet meeting on April 30 with President Donald Trump.
What I see there are young RW-leaning men who have absorbed the ideology’s not just anti-Modernist but even “anti-Enlightenment” message, but then somehow conclude that even Calvinism is not “trad” enough or leaves too much room for further interpretation.
They also probably look at their conservative RW “nondenominational” megachurch preachers and can tell their teaching is theogically shallow as a rain puddle. But instead of deep diving on the doctrines of their alternatives, they fix upon the forms that offer them ritualistic and “mystical” elements — plus the celebration of martyrdom that caters to their persecution complex— and a hardline stance on no LGBT affirmation and no female clergy.
Then they’re upset to discover for example that to the RCC “pro-life” means you oppose BOTH abortion AND the death penalty.
All that BTW I also see in the simultaneous phenomenon of “Ortho bros” which is a similar “revival” of young Christian Right males only towards Eastern Orthodoxy. Probably from watching too much RT and because beards are in style nowadays
Ok, I get the incorrectly correcting people bit and I try to tamp down my grammar Nazi proclivities, but … Either ‘more stupid’ or ‘stupider’ are perfectly cromulent. ‘More stupider’ makes me want to claw my eyes out.
I agree. Putting the King in the position of having to stand next to a dangerous crazy man is not what the government of the UK should be doing. It’s gone beyond “well we need to do this to suck up to Trump.”
It would be a direct acknowledgement and support of everything Trump is saying and doing.
If the UK government does not cancel this visit directly, I suggest King Charles could come down with something that prevents travel. This would save face for the government.
Regarding Truth Social posts from him like this one (“Will someone please tell Pope Leo that Iran has killed at least 42,000 innocent, completely unarmed, protesters in the last two months, and that for Iran to have a Nuclear Bomb is absolutely unacceptable. Thank you for your attention to this matter. AMERICA IS BACK!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP”), does he realize that there’s an alternative to passive-aggressive posting like this? As POTUS, he can get literally anyone in the world on the phone, including the Pope. So why not call him to deliver the message directly? Is he too chickenshit just to tell people his message?
Does he do any quiet diplomacy? Talking to other world leaders directly?
Particularly when it comes to public figures and leaders whom he doesn’t like (or whom he feels are opposing him), it seems like he really really prefers public shaming/bullying. And I don’t think he’s really ever been capable of quiet anything (and even less so these days); he craves the attention too much.
He’d much rather perform than govern. That’s what this grandstanding on social media is: performing for his rubes. Governing involves work, nuance, a soul. None of those things interest him as much as the attention he gets by performing.
Although I fully agree that it’s plausible that Donald heard someone say ‘the image is doctored’ and decided that meant ‘the image is of you as a doctor’--------the “explanation” doesn’t really make sense, either.
How is an AI-generated image “doctored” when it’s all fake to begin with? By definition, as it were?
