If they’re such a danger to Americans, why aren’t they being arrested, tried, and incarcerated? Sending someone fished out of the water back to their home country indicates they were not dangerous. Killing the others is an extreme reaction for someone who is not committing a capital crime. Abandoning someone for them to drown in the ocean is, in addition to all the illegalities, appalling.
I will admit, I like the Lady Liberty design, but this really smacks of a deliberate attempt to snub the greatest Democratic president in American history, and it really bothers me that the reverse is an eagle clutching arrows but not an olive branch. (There’s a certain degree of irony in the “Liberty Over Tyranny” slogan, but I don’t think the fascists are sharing the definitions of those two words that I would use.)
I’ve had this discussion before, on another board, with a Trumpist who declared that the middle of Hudson Bay was international waters, and therefore could be entered into by the US Navy. Problem there was, any USN ships would have to pass through Canadian waters to get there. “Oh, that doesn’t matter,” she said. “Canada’s military is nothing; it won’t be able to stop the US Navy from entering Hudson Bay if it wants to.”
Sounds like this is the same thing, only with aircraft.
Have you ever heard of the Spanish Falange? That was its symbol:
The thing where the arrows intersect is meant to be an ox yoke.
Surely just a coincidence.
“South Park’s” latest episode (once again, apparently) referenced the “6-7 meme”. I didn’t catch it, or know it was part of a rap song, when they opened the first episode with part of the tune.
I first heard about it upthread, where Vance said his kid was repeatedly yelling “six seven” out loud in whatever church he goes to. And he was proud of it.
I am not a meme prophet, yet I reckon this is going to take on a republican meaning somehow. It would be better for them if it were “twenty-eight” or “forty-eight, (ETA: perhaps 4-7 as I reckon he stays Felon 47 with a 'I fucked the Constitution and I won fringe on top)” yet if trump comes out and says something like, “I have stopped 67 wars” or “I now have 67 red hats in all the good fonts,” I will know from whence it came.
I have an old phone that only gets to 4G, yet now I want one with 6-7G so I can see X-rays or whatever trump was on about.
Last mention of María Corina Machado, Nobel Peace Prize winner, was in Part 1 of this thread, has made it to Norway to accept and the other speakers are talking about upholding Democracy and fighting Dictatorships.
My father was born in Norway during WWII - so I must say nice going Norge! They’re not saying, yet this must have been a special OPs thing that Norway is quite capable of itself.
When trump wakes up and tweets, he’ll say, “Did she stop 8 wars?”
And then call a cease-fire to once Venezuela yields control of all their oil. Another war he stopped!
And someone tell me how seizing an oil tanker going to Iran is any more than the War Crimes his administration has committed? Are we at war with Iran? Do we blockade everything going there?
It doesn’t really mean anything. There was an original meme that had some kind of meaning, but the most common use at the moment is just a meaningless phrase.
It’s also a differentiator - you asked, which means you are some old person who doesn’t get the usage. If they repeat it at you several times, it is basically an insult, i.e. “look at this out of touch person”. So to the extent there is a meaning, such a meaning exists only at a meta-level.
Yes, it’s rather dumb, but so are most memes kids generate, including the ones we used ourselves. And this, too, shall pass, probably in the next few months as something else supplants it.
Apparently it doesn’t mean anything (Other than “Let’s confuse the old folks.”)
When my kids were born, I made an effort to learn the current slang, so I could break it out in front of their friends when they were teenagers and add on, “That’s what you kids say, isn’t it?” for pure maximum embarrassment.
