It’s always bugged my inner OCD that the the line between the Washington monument and the White House is not a right angle from the one between the Lincoln memorial and the Capitol. Wiki says the ground under the ‘proper’ spot was not stable enough to bear the weight.
It rang a bell with me. I think I saw it when I was a little kid – under 10 for sure. If it’s the one I’m thinking of, it had two robots that looked something like Daleks called Gog and Magog.
Oh, then Trump should go out in it with a captain’s hat and a little rowboat just like the Ty-D-Bol man!
That’s the one. It was the third and last of Ivan Tors’ Office of Scientific Investigation movies, and the glitziest. not only was it made in color, it was in 3D!
I first saw it as a kid on TV in the 1960s, and was impressed. then it disappeared for years. I never saw it on TV, or on video, or on obscure cable networks. Then they found the 3D version and restored it. I had to get a copy, which i showed at Arisia two and a half years ago, with 3D glasses.
Looking at it as an adult, I’m not as impressed with it, but it was pretty decently made. And I do think that Michael Crichton got his idea for the lab in The Andromeda Strain from it – both labs were secret bases in the desert, multi-levels with biological labs and a nuke at the bottom that threatens to explode at the climax, but our heroes prevent that.
The Trump administration had plans to classify 2.7 million living people — including some U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents — as dead as part of its immigration enforcement efforts, according to a former senior Social Security executive.
The previously unreported plan, which the Social Security Administration said was not carried out, would have used one of the government’s most consequential identity databases to effectively erase people from the financial system, potentially cutting them off from wages, banking, government benefits and other services.
Jeremiah Schofield, who worked at Social Security for 25 years and helped lead the agency’s IT modernization efforts before leaving in October, said he refused to help implement the plan after agency lawyers warned that falsely marking living people as dead could violate federal law. Schofield said he realized the plan’s possible intent — to intimidate and worsen the finances of immigrants — as well as its potential unlawfulness after taking a sample of people from the 2.7 million and discovering they were all alive. Some were U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, teenagers and senior citizens, including one widow who was a legal permanent resident receiving survivor benefits.

There are likely a lot of relatively-unsung* works of art that inspired other works that achieved a lot more fame.
* thanks to @CalMeacham for his efforts to, er, sing this particular one!

Not grandiose enough for Donny-boy, of course—but what a sight it would be!
I’d been thinking of the river. But some spectacular increase in Importance will surely happen for our voting persons the Giant Corps…perhaps when Donald gets his King crown, Bezos et al will become Dukes. (I bet he’d like to be called Your Grace…)
My theory is that whenever he says “a lot of people don’t know” something (which is often), it’s because he himself only recently found out about it… and if he, the stablest of all geniuses, didn’t know, then how could anybody else?
I fully believe it took him nearly 80 years to learn how to spell “dumb.”
You better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I’m telling you why
The felon is comin’ to town
The felon is comin’ to town
The felon is comin’ to town
He’s making a list
And checking it twice
Gonna find out
Who’s darker or white
The felon is comin’ to town
The felon is comin’ to town
The felon is comin’ to town
He seeks you when you’re working
He knows when you’re on break
He knows if you’ve been dark or white
So be poor for goodness sake!
Nitpick; corporations that own property in the town of Fenwick Island, population 343, can cast one vote each in Fenwick Island municipal elections only, and have been able to since 2008, because the town charter specifically says they can. Nothing has changed recently except that a court upheld the validity of the charter.
