Sadly, the Second Felonial Era has proven all too well their threats of war crimes and genocide are not idle.
Remember “an entire civilization will die tonight, never to rise again”?
Canada, Greenland, and Cuba will be the new (same as the old) distractions. Epstein, anyone?
Squirrel!
The paint job on the Reflecting Pool is peeling already. Who’s surprised that a company that knows nothing about painting pools did a bad job painting a pool? Anybody??
Every day is TACO Day now! Olé!

Also, hydrogen peroxide is used to remove paint. Guess what they’ve been pouring into the pool to kill the algae?
Doesn’t the Reflecting Pool also have chlorine in it’s water?
One week ago. GMTA!
Probably coincidental, but it’s amusing that the paint started peeling off after the pool guys poured hydrogen peroxide into the pool. According to AI results:
Hydrogen peroxide is actively used as an industrial and commercial paint remover. Peroxide-activated strippers are specifically formulated to break down tough coatings like polyurethane and epoxy without relying on toxic, traditional solvents like methylene chloride.
But of course, we saw pictures of people pouring gallon jugs of H2O2 into the pool, rather than the ~8,000 litres they would have needed to kill the algae. I’m sure it was far too dilute to harm the paint. Probably it was poor preparation by pool guys who didn’t actually know much about pools.
ETA: With my new job, it’s impossible for me to keep up with these fast-moving threads.
From what I understand, painting granite is a bad idea in general. It was almost certainly doomed from the start.
If you had to pick one thing, just one, that symbolizes the malignant arrogance, corruption and incompetence of the Trump regime, it’d be this. Attempting to co-opt a national monument into a symbol of himself, while letting his cronies make a buck. But the contractors are so ignorant and the work done is so incompetent that it ends up destroying itself.
It would have been even more trumpian if they had tried to cover it in gold leaf.
If you wrote a comedy with that plot 20 years ago it would’ve been considered too over the top
Um...they did. To the horses at the nearby Lincoln Memorial, anyway.
Idiocracy was made exactly 20 years ago and it came close.
But yes, many at the time said it was over the top.
But Idiocracy, while prescient, did not go so far!
Camacho was way better as a president than Trump.
He identified a problem, recognized that he didn’t know how to fix it, found someone who did and let him do it without interfering.
That’s the thing
Idiocracy was not prescient. Satire, by its nature, is not a crystal ball. It’s a mirror. Mike Judge held up a mirror to our society and, to mix metaphors, turned the dial up to 11.
Or so we thought. We leaned into the worst aspects and impulses of our society to the extent the exaggeration became mild by comparison only a few years later.
While there are exceptions, people are terrible at actually understanding ourselves and identifying the worse angels of our nature.
The movie “Don’t Look Up” had the same problem. It was intended to be a biting satire, but by the time it was finished and released, events had gone so far that it seemed to be just a mild parody.
