I am currently reading The Great influenza, by John M. Barry. I can warmly recommend it. What surprised me the most is that, believe it or not, President Ineptstein’s levels of corruption, incompetence, and stupidity are nothing new in US politics. In fact, he stands on the shoulders of giants.
So next should be a really deadly strain of influenza, of course.

Indeed - there was a record high 36 confirmed cases of leprosy in Florida in 2025. Seems that 10-banded armadillos have been one of the main sources.

During and after the first term, there may have been an argument to be made that a couple of the more notably corrupt administrations of the past may have been worse in some respects. I actually debated some folks who did just that (I thought Trump took things to new levels of depravity but I was open to the thesis at that point).
But now? A year and a half into the 2nd term? There’s not much of an honest debate to be had about it. Things went south with astonishing speed. He’s the giant upon whose shoulders future incompetence and corruption will be based and measured against and who has crushed the so-called giants of the past beneath the massive girth of his turpitude
