Yes, the group was led by Goldwater (who was, at that point, a Senator), accompanied by two other Republican congressmen: Senate Minority Leader Hugh Scott, and House Minority Leader John Rhodes. They told Nixon that he had very few supporters left in Congress, and that he should resign, or face impeachment.
And, yeah, Nixon undoubtedly had some mental issues, but he wasn’t a malignant narcissist with possible dementia. Also, he was being given that news by people whom he’d served with in Congress, who had been his supporters, and whom he actually trusted. Trump trusts no one.
A similar attempt today from congressional GOP leaders would lead to Trump rage-Truthing about it, and demanding that they be brought up on treason charges.
Why isn’t the prospect of a war with trump at the helm, and Kegbreath in the Pentagon enough to wake the fuckers up? It’s disgusting and embarrassing.
And he brags about the boat strikes. If he’s so sure of the number of people killed, someone should ask him how many of them were children.
“We hit a lot of bad, bad hombres. Some of them quite young. And you know, folks, that takes some skills–it’s not easy to hit the little ones. Many people have said it. We have skills the likes of which the world has never seen–and it better watch out! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
He values them because they are proof of his power. That is, he says to Person A “here is my Golf Club Championship Plaque” and to Person B “here is my Michigan Man of the Year Award” and to Person C “here is my Nobel Peace Prize”------and A, B, and C smile and nod.
Because they know that if they don’t, they willpay.
Power. That’s why Donald doesn’t care that no one believes he’s actually won these “awards.” He adores the fact that everyone has to just…smile and nod.
Shouldn’t “complete and total” be followed by something more awe-inspiring than working out a purchase deal? “Cartago delenda est, or maybe we can work something out in negotiations.”
Trump wants to start wars when he knows he won’t be around when the bill comes. But no worries, Vance and Kegbreath will take the controls and bring us in for a nice soft landing.
From some news item @Monty posted a few posts above:
This refers to that brief excerpt that was posted in this thread a few days ago with Tarrio’s name, yes?
I noticed that same excerpt also included the name Mark Elias.
Mark Elias is a well-established voting rights lawyer. He recently claims he and his firm have 60-some voting rights cases in litigation nationwide. He is highly-placed on Trump’s enemies list.
He has a you-toob channel at Democracy Docket (and I think also a substack), and does near-daily videos and also appears often with Brian Tyler Cohen.
I highly recommend checking on his stuff.
Funny that his name should appear on a leaked list of ICE goons.
That really updends/undermines the whole idea of mutual defense treaties, doesn’t it? What about NORAD? Doesn’t that mean Canada should own all of the United States territory in North America? After all, we’re relying on Canada to defend us there.
Rip van Simple and his entire lot of Simpletons need to be impeached post-haste.
I can’t post any more of that article; it’s just too damned depressing.
For the unitiated, Stars and Stripes is an indendent but government-supported newspaper serving the Armed Forces of the United States.
From the Wikipedia link:
You can go to www.stripes.com to download a daily paper without having to pay for an account; also available on that site is a Sunday comics section. Living where I do, I find this service quite useful. But I guess it’ll soon be a thing of the past. King Sadim is turning that into dlog, too, of course.
