The Unexpected MMP

Today, as I was driving to work (yes, I have to work today), I saw something horrible on the side of Route 80.

Bagel massacre. The side of the road was littered with fresh bagels. I don’t know why, I don’t know how, but I know I’m hungry. I almost stopped and picked one up.

Last night, I went to church (yes, me) to rehearse for my friend’s wedding next weekend. I was there for a maximum of half an hour, we ran through the song three times, and the entire time, all I could think was “There’s a nun standing right there, and I’m not wearing underwear.” I may not be Catholic, but I know I’m going to Hell for that.

But the good news is that the accompanist has a nifty piano that will automatically transpose the song for me, so I don’t have to worry about making a fool of myself on the high note. But I think I’m going to have to take a Xanax before I get up there–just being in there with nobody but a single old nun watching was enough to freak me right the heck out. It’s been at least ten years since I got up and sang in front of a bunch of people. (Karaoke doesn’t count, because nobody’s paying attention to me then, and you’re supposed to suck at karaoke.)

Today is going to be incredibly boring. Our main competitor is closed all through Passover so this is usually a busy time, but nobody really wants to buy cameras on Good Friday.

Happy Good Friday to those who observe it! Happy Friday to the rest of us!

Now, I’m not the only RPI student who applied to the program in Amsterdam. The other one is in my General Relativity class, and I asked him if he had recieved his finanical and housing info yet: no dice. No financial or housing info either. It’s the only piece of the puzzle that’s really missing, because once I get it I can tell Dartmouth to go freeze itself. That info from Amsterdam is the ignition key on my rocket to fame and fortune! Where’s my rocket, dammit!?

Drae, just think of it as more quality time with us. FCM, have a great trip! Lissla - the Feast of Maximum Occupancy?

And now, for the last Passover Food …

Morning all. FCM if you’re still reading this, have a safe and happy trip. MD to FL and back in three days is really pushing it.

Drae imagine what the nun would have thought if you were stoned on Xanax and sans panties standing next to her.

Mom got in okay yesterday. Seems MapQuest directions work better for her than my directions (last time she came down, it took her 7 hours to get to the local area, and then she wandered around Hampton Roads for three hours.) And I picked up the furniture set and a bigger charcoal grill on the way home from work last night.

When I got to the Garden Center, there were only old ladies working there. They had to call in some Young Bucks to pull the two big boxes off the shelf. That took about 45 minutes. And then once the big boxes were at the register, they disappeared. So I had to move the boxes out to the front door of the store. Did I mention they were big? So I slid them. And I could just feel bits and pieces of my back shifting as I did it.

So I got the box (big and flat) into the SUV, but the box (big and cubey) with the chairs in it wouldn’t fit. So I unpacked it right there at the curb, and threw those parts and pieces into the vehicle. And then dragged the empty box back into the store and asked one of the old ladies if I could just leave it with them. It was about 6:45 pm when I got home. The “open door” alarm chiming all the way because I had to keep the rear hatch open.

I put the grill together while the GF, her daughters, and one of the boyfriends worked on the chairs and table. I got the grill finished, and realized the wheels were in the wrong place to oll the damn thing. But it could still hold charcoal, and it was getting dark, plus it looked like a storm was rolling in. So we ended up grilling steaks (chuck eye cuts - cheap and surprisingly good) outside and eating inside. And my back is killing me this morning.

Thankee kindly, miss. I was hoping someone would pick up on it. So much for our young folk and all their books, eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

The weird one -I will take digital pics etc of before and during and after, but don’t hold your breath–I am still trying to get vaca pics here…Essentially, it is new cabinets, new floor and a breakfast bar. No moving of plumbing, kitchen triangle, or appliances. Yay!
Rifty -that was anyrose who wanted to eat worms (odd sort of interest, but I’m open)–or are you saying that I pout alot here and so, of course it had to be me who would go out back and eat worms? <pouts at thought>

Actually, I come here to today so glad I have all of you and this wonderfully crazy forum. I was called down to “clarify things” last noc at work. Essentially, I got a 40+ minute drubbing, double barrelled. The experience was not pleasant to say the least–and the twists and turns it took so unexpected that I did tear up at one point (And I hate when that happens–I contend that if they had not waited til the end of a 12 hour day on my feet etc, I would not have teared up, but I digress). I am still mulling over the beating and (of course) coming up with replies that I could not do last noc. Basically, I was gobsmacked and it showed.

I am    :frowning: :dubious: today.

However, it did clarify things wonderfully well for me, at least. I am looking for a new job (didn’t quit, but I think they really wanted me to–or won’t be sorry to see me go. I believe in advocacy for nurses and they do not. I believe this is called irecconcilible differences).

Wish me luck. And is it tacky if I email the grad school and ask when I should know, yea or nay on my entry there?

Sending big gobs of luck your way rigs. I’m also sending big hugs for the crap you put up with last night. That’s awful.

Sean, that’s a lovely patio set. Wanna buy one for me? I’ll even pick it up and stuff because the hubby has truck.  I’ve got a cheesy plastic table with cheesy plastic chairs.

Oh! It’s probably too late, but I’m wishing FCM and FCD a very safe trip.

I better do some work now. I can’t believe they actually expect me to work.

Rigs, more big hugs from me. Jerkfaces don’t MESS with the MMP!!!

And somebody just brought in bagels. I’m checking for dirt before I eat them.

:smack: :smack: :smack: I can read, I swear.

Sorry about the gobsmacking last night. You ougtha go in there and give them what for. And you should also email the grad school. No, wait, don’t email them. Call them. Showing interest like that often bumps people up the list. It worked for me with Dartmouth.

Rigs I think it’s ok to email or call the grad school. If nothing else, you should get a “you should here by” date from 'em. Oh and to those meanies who upset you last night:

STOP IT!!! STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!! QUIT UPSETTING OUR RIGS!!! SO THERE! :stuck_out_tongue:

Have a safe trip FCM and FCD!

Bobbio could your sister grow a handlebar or a FuManChu?

Ok, I’m off to Good Friday service. BBL

Would Cuervo like a boyfriend?. Here’s Bailey again!. And Aerin. Mr. Lissar just uploaded pics of our cats. We have thousands of catpics.

I just had to post some of them.

rigs, go out and find a good job, where they properly appreciate you.

Yay! It’s spring break! Just in time too. I was about ready to shove a couple of my more ass h-- I mean challenging-- students into the kiln. And then turn it on. Really, really high.

Yep GT, the orange pus was a dream. What makes me so very wrong is that the next day I went and bought cheese dip and chips. Haven’t had that stuff since high school— ssssallllty. Which reminds me of prom. I’m wearing this dress, only in a super-dark blue-violet. Maybe with really long, matching gloves. Whatcha think? I want some of Puggy’s dream Tilex. It’d have to be better than the real stuff that always dries before it does anything. Stupid desert.

Lissla, do you like corsets? I found a website that makes corsets in the coolest novelty fabrics EVER. I want one in the sailor tattoo fabric. Oh heck, I want 'em all.

Okay, I’m going to post now and then read some more. Goodness but I loooove the MMP!
[sub]Oooooh Bobbio— imagine a wolf whistle coming from my direction![/sub]

Me and collard greens Swampy? Of the many things southern I have and have not eaten <snerk> collard greens fall into the not eaten. I grew up in a spinach household since Mom is an Arizonan (we forgive her since she did every other southern thing right proper, which means with a boatload of bacon grease, mmmmm).

Dorothy, sweetpea, TELL your parents you ARE going to the doctor for your insomnia. Sleep deprivation is dangerous-- do they want you to die in an accident because you didn’t get help? Do they want you to flunk out because an hour of lost sleep is equivalent to losing four IQ points? Do they want to lose you to drug or alcohol addiction because you had to self-medicate? There, try those to start the guilt train a-rollin’.

Lissla how long did it take to wash that cat down the drain? Wouldn’t flushing have been easier?

I went to church then went and got a fish sammich. It’s all quiet, I’m the only one in my building. If I locked the door, I could sit in my office nekkid all afternoon and nobody would know. I’m not, mind you, but it’s nice to know I could.

"some"???

I’d like to know where you bought the carton of cat with the plastic cover

Lissla Aering looks exactly llike our non-rolypoly cat, Rascal. And I should probably open up one of those photobucket albums for SDMB pics. Does it require any kind of signing up?

HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP!

I can’t find my tax stuff! I always put it in the exact same place and I can remember putting it there this year-- but it’s not there now! I’ve looked everywhere it could be and it’s not anywhere! Oh I have my w-2 thingies but not the government paper GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

[sup]Ummm… never mind. It had wiggled behind the cabinet drawer.)[/sup]

Now Ashes[sup]2[/sup], calm down dear. Go have a big bowl of collard greens and it’ll be all better. The collard greens thing comes from the MMP where we went on and on about our ficticious family. Collards played a big role, so they make me think of you now. See, it’s a good thing.

Eleanor, you gots to try you some Marriage A Freres Earl Grey. Actually all of their tea is nummy. It’s a bit spendy so I save it for when I have a moment to enjoy it. And Swampy, you need a back up french press. That way if the power goes out, you can still boil some water on your gas stove and make coffee in the dark. Take ACBG with ya when you buy that one too.

Oh, I forgot to post links to my prom dress and the corset fabric (because I know you’re chomping at the bit to know). The black dress not the goofy thing next to it. It will be real fabric too, not paper, and a little longer.

Cool I think but there’s others that are the bee’s knees, too.

I want an orange swingline stapler but I don’t think they make those. I also want a teeny orange bbq shaped like a flying saucer that I saw on tv and now can’t find anywhere.

Bagel massacre-- that’s perfect Drae! Sometimes we have produce massacres since this is ag country. You *do not * want to be at the site of a watermelon massacre as it unfolds. Yikes! Twice I’ve seen semis tip over when the hay decided to take a dive.

Later today I go pick up my car and then tomorrow it’s off to Mom’s. Six hours of the most boringest drive you ever done been stupefied by. Good thing I have a book on cd to finish Spook, by Mary Roach. Her book Stiff was about death, decomposition, etc. Spook is about getting a handle on the soul and such. All of her books are great.

These kitties are too cute-- I especially like Lissla’s fur baby all curled in a ball. any’s kitty looks like my Tansy only no bib and toffee brown instead of white bits. I gotta learn how to scan my kitty pics.

'Course collard greens are good, Swampy. But if you’ll recall, the collard greens in our Southern Saga were used in the wrestling competition and I don’t wrestle in vegetables. I was raised right and therefore wrestle in chocolate pudding only.

Lunch time! Gonna go make me a fish taco.

I thought I waited til the last minute! - Mine are going out this afternoon

Ashes --tea sounds nummy! I also want to try Lady Grey, but haven’t yet.
I think a paper prom dress would be quite exciting! Don’t rule that out just yet…
Am still so pissed about yesterday–need to just keep going, I guess. Thanks for all the support, guys.
Kitchen design is awesome! It doesn’t change the basic layout, but she managed to get me more counter space (by getting a combo vent and microwave) and under the cabinet lighting! Just like downtown! Also, I thought of shelves for this one part near the garden window that will do very nicely. Price quote for the cabinets reasonable. Phew. Now am waiting on an install charge quote and then we order cabinets! I meet with her next week for flooring and countertops and lighting and stuff.
Yay! Rained here --oh, rifty , no it didn’t rain until around 11pm, but then it rained like hell. Ah, well.

All my daffodills are in bloom, as are my hyacinths, windflowers, magnolia tree and I don’t know what else. I guess it’s spring.

Making Lil Nests for Easter today with my 7 year old. I like 7–it’s a nice age. I’m chattering away here, so, bye!

Sean, yes you’ll have to sign up. There are other free services, I know I pay for Photobucket, but can’t remember off the top of my head if I HAD to.

I’ve been noticing a lot of people on flickr lately, and it looks all neat-o, but I don’t know that I want to change. I’m all stodgy that way.
**
Rigs** dear, you need to get to a better place, I’m telling you. No job is worth getting your head smooshed in like that, and your shorts all twisted. Well, you know what I mean. That very thing is one of the prime reason I am not YOUR Bus Guy anymmore. Those people at the end of the road by the nursery may have nice yellow buses, but they have a corporate beaurocracy that rewards mediocrity and totally stifles anything resembling thought.

And try to instill things that might be people friendly? Ha. ha. and Ha.

Oh, and taxes? We have to pay this year, so mine get postmarked Monday, not a minute before.
