Hi, everybody!
I like Mr Bus Guy’s stories about his work. A while ago there was a thread about buses that sort of turned into an informal “Ask the Bus Guy” thread and I was surprised at how little I knew of the world of schoolbuses, seeing as how I was on one for so many years. And I got to hear the other end…I used to get on the wrong bus a lot. I mean, there were like 20-25 buses outside and I could never figure out which one was mine. In that thread I heard how the drivers had to check in constantly to let the head-guy know about the poor directionally-challenged kid they had to drop off before they could go home, etc. Pretty fascinating stuff.
Spats, I missed why you’re going down to Florida. Can I prevail on you to repeat it?
SCL, sorry about the teeth!
I made fried eggplant (Indian style) tonight and fresh *rotis *(flatbread). Funny, I just looked through all the stuff I bought to feed myself while the guy’s away and it’s almost all vegetarian. There’s some ground beef for keema-aloo (minced meat & potatoes) but nothing heavier. I always find it amusing that I seem to default to vegetarianism when I cook for myself.
Anyway, the eggplant was my first try. It came out looking really weird and not so good, but it tasted great! So I shrugged, it was just for me after all, and ate it anyway. Who cares, right? Next time I’ll do better.
Last night I watched Corpse Bride, which actually was really charming. Not as good as Nightmare Before Christmas, but I’ll certainly buy it. I think Danny Elfman may be losing his touch.
Today I watched Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, upon which I started a thread.
I also played a lot of Final Fantasy, and enjoyed the very nice weather. Of course I took an afternoon nap, so I’ll be up half the night.
Tomorrow I’m going to hit Home Depot and buy a couple more seedlings for my balcony garden.
Oh, and I forgot to mention: I tried to present the lady at Hollywood Video with a Blockbuster Video coupon. Oops. In my defense, it was only like 10:30 AM, and I’d already been out for an hour and a half.
Happy Holy Saturday, everyone! (Tho I don’t celebrate it and wouldn’t know how!) See youse tomorrow!
So, I came up to Bethesda, Maryland to visit my aunt and grandparents yesterday. Being a freshman college student and therefore not having a car, I decided to take the train. It was delayed four hours. Four! How does that even happen?
Happy Easter!
I’m going to bed soon. Tomorrow is church and then I’m going out for lunch with Attacks Husband. And then I go to work and loaf around, while complaining loudly about working on Easter. Yay!
Time for a pre-bed snack. And I just got an email from welby. I’m smug. I’m going to meet an MMPer!
Wow…that’s a major delay for a train, Monica!
I’m trying to get sleepy. Got home from church at about 12:30 and was all awake, since the Easter vigil mass is pretty raucous. It was freezing the first hour, while we were in semi-darkness hearing readings from the Old Testament. As soon as the lights came on, the air went off and it was finally comfortable. At least I was wearing a sweater. There were several people around me who were in sleeveless blouses. Not sure how they could stand it.
Guess I’m getting sleepier…
Think I’ll read for a little bit and hope I fall asleep…
Happy Easter!

Happy Zombie Jesus Day!
I was offered an internship by one of the Navy’s innumerable subprograms, so I’ll be doing computer modeling work at the base in Panama City. I should probably start a thread. Eh, maybe later. :: is lazy ::
Happy Whichever Holiday is important to you.
I got my nails done in a bright, almost neon, fuschia that says “Spring is HERE, dammit!”
I’m just about packed - cousin’s train arrives in about an hour, so I have time to run to the 7-11 and grab some java and breakfast (usually I prefer DD, but they don’t have ATMs) Actually, this trip won’t really cost me a thing - cousin owes me bucks from when I carried her (on our trips) while she was on sabbatical (and not getting a regular paycheck) So she’s paying for everything this week.
2nd nephew (aka new baby’s uncle) and his new GF will be joining us for dinner tonight along with grandpa (aka my bro) and of course the baby and his parents, so that’ll be fun. Tomorrow, cousin and I will hang with niece-in-law and baby since 1st nephew has to work (he couldn’t wrangle the day off ). Tuesday, to kill time, we might go into Providence for a bit, or somewhere else interesting, then cous and I will be having dinner with a college chum and her wife (yes, I typed her - they DO live in Massachusettes, after all).
All cous cares about, besides baby, is having lobster (she doesn’t care that’s it’s traife - lobster and New England belong together) I’ve never kept Kosher, so it doesn’t bother me a smidge.
Anyway, I won’t be posting again til Wednesday evening, unless someone lets me use their 'puter, and even then it’ll only be a quick “hi”, but when I get back I will tell you ALL about the trip. I’ll even post some pics.
Too late to say have nice trip anyrose, but have a nice trip anyways!
**
welby** and Lissla, we’ll expect pictures, so make sure the camera is batteried up!
The child and I went to church this morning. Our church is almost comically casual, stuck in a grade school gymnasium, with guitars and folding chairs. But I like it, and I like that my still-Catholic daughter comes with me. I think she’s less denominational than she expects she is. She doesn’t seem to miss the stand up/sit down/kneel/stand up routine that comes with the Catholics. Makes my knees hurt.
Anyway, the best part about the Amazingly Casual Church is that we can stop at Starbucks on the way and carry it in with us. Happy easter indeed!
There’s thunder in the distance and Weatherbug just told my cell phone that we’re under a secere thunderstorm watch until tonight. Got the grass cut just in time.
Now I’ll take a look at the kitchen and get organized for the meal. Glazed ham, turkey breast, mashed potatoes, spinach warmed in a bacon grease/flour mix (I have no word for it, I made it up one day and it’s way tasty topped with boiled egg slices), wild rice with mushrooms and celery, rolls, cranberry/apple/cinnamon sauce, and corn. Mimosas to start, and key lime pie for dessert. Mika, come on out, there’s plenty for everyone! Urp.
Happy Easter everyone. Oh great, here comes the wind, maybe it will storm here.
MBG --it rained like hell here–I took a nap (I needed it) while the family was over at MIL’s.
I have written a letter addressing one statement made to me at the Drubbing. I will give it to HR in the morning.
I dread tomorrow.
Go get 'em Rigs! Don’t let 'em get you down.
Have a safe trip Rosie, even though you won’t see this.
The spinch sounds intriguing MBG. Any kind of idea as to how much flour and bacon grease to use. I think I’d like it a lot.
Ok, all the big Easter doin’s are over. All the veggies and pies got eaten. One guest brought a very yummy caramel cake that she bought from this lady who makes and sells yummy caramel cakes. I have a hunk of it to have with ice cream later if’n I can find some room for it. I have about half the ham left and some tater (N.O.T.) salad. I figure we’ll have ham and cheese sammiches and tater (oh, you know!) salad a couple nights this week. I’ll probably chop up and freeze some ham cause it’s good to put in soup or greens down the road. Of course the ham bone will be saved for greens. One just cannot throw out a perfectly good hambone after all.
Hope everybody had either a very Happy Easter or a great Sunday.
I feel completely bloated on Lil Nests and Easter candy crap.
Ugh. I’m certainly not hopping down the bunny trail today. Pouring outside, so no yardwork, either. Guess I’ll go clean the bathroom.
Sounds yummy, swampy.
Have a good trip, anyrose.
Swampy: Blanch and chill about 1 1/2 - 2 bags worth of baby spinach. Set aside. Take about 1/2 lb of thick cut bacon, cut into 1/2 inch bits. Brown in a big skillet until crispy. Reduce heat, slowly stir in about 1/4 cup of flour til there’s a nice pasty gravy. Drain the spinach, and add into the spinach/bacon mess, just until the spinach warms again. Top with sliced boiled eggs.
Get 'em rigs!
I wish it would rain here. We need it. We’re behind ten inches in rainfall totals for the year. Everything is very, very, dry. And dusty. ACHHHOOO!
Hey you guys. Watch Memoirs of a Geisha. Really really nice movie, with beautiful costumes and wonderful acting. Love Michelle Yeoh.

Ok, ok…we’ll watch it twice!!!
How the heck did that happen? I typed the post, and hit submit and walked away. But when I came back later, I saw that the post was still on the “reply to thread” box, so I hit submit again, thinking I must not have submitted it before? Weird.
Evening. Have been out since 10:30 this morning. Church was good, although practically no one sang the hymns. Is that a weird Catholic thing or specific to the church we’ve been attending? Weird. Attacks Husband and I went to a lovely Viennese restaurant for lunch. Apparently he and Mr. Lissar have to duel to the death now, because A.T. asked me out on a date.
I hope that doesn’t mean I have to duel his girlfriend. She lives in Hawaii, and that’s an expensive plane ride just for one of us to die. And it would suck of one of each couple died, cause that would complicate things.
I’m tired, but I’ve had a bath, and I’m going to do some housework and try to stay awake until Mr. Lissar gets home tonight. Oh, everyone think good thoughts- Mr. Lissar has the possibility of a regular non-shift job with the building he works at. It would be super.
Happy Easter!
Spinach sounds yum, MBG. When I was growing up, our church had a “real” sanctuary (altar/stage) and pews but was extended on Sundays and special occasions by opening the panels between it and the school gym where there were folding seats for those who came late to mass. It wasn’t casual though. Also, there were no guitars. Where I go now has all kinds of instruments (including a guitar and drums) and is mostly casual, although last night most people were dressed up. Not me - I was tired of fighting with stuff (especially the lack of electricity and inability to do taxes) and just went as I was.
Came back from about 8 hours at local best friend’s house and - finally!!! - finished my taxes (well, I still have to do the city ones, but they’ll take about 5 minutes when I get the site to cooperate; it’s currently slow as molasses).
Now I’m really tired. Didn’t really get enough sleep over the weekend.
Guess I should get to bed so that I can get up early and do the local taxes AND the MMP.
Standard paranoid disclaimer: if the new MMP isn’t out there by 7:45 Eastern time, something terrible happened to my internet connection and someone else should proceed…

Holy crap, guys. Don’t take a picture of yourself and then hit “negative Image” you’ll scare the crap out of yourself. Good one, 'Mika.
