When I was in Junior High, we were allowed to wear jeans that were not blue.
**flytrap **- I’ll go ya one better - when I was in Jr high and high school, girls were not allowed to wear pants at all! OK, by my senior year, *pantsuits *were allowed, but no one could wear jeans - not even the boys. I can’t believe it when I see kids wearing shorts to school - NO FAIR!!!
I was going to walk, but it’s just too windy and chilly, especially since I didn’t wear a hoodie today.
I wear jeans almost every day. None are torn and ragged. I prefer a darker blue but I have some nearly white, black and all shades of blue. I have other clothes that are not jeans but I am just more comfortable in jeans.
We made pimento cheese occasionally. Good stuff. Hubby likes to stuff it in celery.
Budget time…
Sammiches have been made. I even found a container large enough to put all 80 half sammiches in and not be crowded. Go Me! Soup ‘n sammich starts at six-thirty but I shall head over to the church house about four-thirty. We need to set up tables in the Parish Hall, set up to eat, and make tea, lemonade, and coffee. We have a group of college students from Wittenberg College (somewhere around Dayton, OH) stayin’ in the Parish Hall this week. They are down here to assist with repairin’ storm damaged homes durin’ their Spring break. They are sponsored by the Fuller Center for Housing and are a neat group of kids, all ten of ‘em. They sleep in the Parish Hall, shower at a local community college, and are fed by various around town groups. Waaaaaaaaaay back in the day when I was in college we didn’t do such things but I think I would have given the opportunity. Anywho, this should be a good evenin’.
Sinuses feel better, btw. I did not nap with Ben this mornin’ but may do so in a little bit.
BigKitty can’t wait to read all about the High Drama! I have to admit that really juicy stuff like that is sump’n I miss as a retired person. The day to day stooped stuff, no, but who doesn’t just love some irk-related High Drama as long as one is not involved personally.
By the time I got to HS - 10 grade anyway since 9th grade was at the Junior High School, we finally had NO dress code. Well, kind of, sort of, there were still things you couldn’t wear like halter tops or crop tops. You could wear hair line lows with a body shirt. You couldn’t show any belly skin.
I remember the principal saying she wanted us to wear clothes that were appropriate for work, I guess all of us wanted to get factory jobs.
FCM I think back then clothes were more important and a status symbol. I remember reading somewhere that back then parents (especially immigrants) would rather have their son doing a white collar job that paid $25,000 a year than a blue collar job that paid $40,000 a year.
The cat is so goofy, every time the mail person comes he flips out and runs like hell from the door.
Now I’m thinking of buying store made pimento cheeze and making my own sammiches.
Saw an itty-bitty jar of pimento cheese spread on the sale shelf at a local grocery the other day and grabbed it. Was all excited until I saw the price. Even on sale it was ridiculous. I might make my own though, when I run out of peppadews.
I also have a partial jar of roasted red peppers in the fridge. hmmm.
(I put 'em in tuna salad.)
Aaaaand I’m the proud owner of a new car…or will be. I’ll explain.
Went to the dealership and they did try to convince me that they had a SUV just as nice as the one I wanted, but they dropped that once I made it clear that “I knows what I wants”. Test drive went well, lots more buttons and such to push than there were 7 years ago, but everything worked so I sat down with the ‘money guy’ (or whatever the closer is called. They had $3,000 in discounts, which is one reason I focused on them, and they gave me what I asked for my trade with very little argument (which meant I probably could have gone higher, but I was happy with it). Title paperwork and taxes were less than I had calculated, so I signed the papers, gave them a nice downpayment, and in about 6 weeks, I’ll take possession of a 2017 Dodge Durango Model STX Utility Vehicle.
So that is done for the next 8-9 years…
Metal Mouse congrats on the new vehicle! May you have many happy miles together!
I went to a private school. Uniforms for me, and no pants! The horror! We even wore saddle shoes still (this was the early 80s).
Got stuff to do. Think I’ll put it off just a smidgeon more.
I wore saddle shoes thru 8 years of Catholic school - maybe not the whole time - I have vague memories of brown oxfords, too. They looked stunning with the navy blue jumpers, the white blouses, and the navy blue beanies. I’ll have to scare up a photo and stick it on FB.
Home. **FCD **leaves for FL in the morning so I’ll be without adult supervision till late Tues.
He’s not hungry tonight, so we’ll forage. Such is the excitement here.
Congrats on the new wheels, MetalMouse!
And I found a couple of first-day-of-school pics, but no saddles in either one. I know I had them at some point, but apparently not on the first days of 3rd and 8th grades. They’re on FB for those who care.
In the clothing department, I can’t ever remember wearing Jeans to school, not even in college (probably did, but more likely I started with them in my 20’s). Now that is about all I wear.
And I don’t care for Pimento cheese, thank you.
considers commenting on the jeans mini-thread, realizes this will mark her as a whippersnapper, backs out slowly
Rifftrax Live season is upon us and the tickets for the first movie have just gone on sale. I go to the website, type in my zip code, and wait to see which movie theaters in my area will be showing this fine film.
Greenville, SC
Simpsonville, SC
Anderson, SC
All of which are about 45 minutes to an hour away from me.
Not the theater twenty-five minutes up Highway 25 that has been showing these movies for the last nearly ten years. It was formerly called The Carolina. It is now under new management and shall now be known as the You Suck and I Hate You Theater.
The  is part of the title.
Like big kitty, I needed a paycheck so I worked today. I did, however, wear red, as did a whole mess of the women out on the production floor.
nettie, while we do have it better than women in third world countries, I would rather aspire to first world status as far as rights are concerned.
Congrats on the new wheels metal mouse! Should we get a Mumper road trip together to test it out?
swampy, you’ve made me hungry for pimento cheese sammiches now. My sister’s late grandmother-in-law was a steel magnolia from Texas who made some kick ass pimento cheese. She put jusssttt the right amount of cayenne in it.
It was a slow day at irk today. Tonight is finishing up the heathen kid craft for Sunday. This one is taking longer than usual.
Re: Pimento cheese mini-thread.
The store bought stuff usually fellates with great alacrity, as does the store bought potato salad and coleslaw.
Tahred. Why isn’t it Firday yet?
I am so tired. In the last three days I’ve worked not quite thirty-two hours. And I still have two days to go. Tomorrow should not be so bad, but Friday will be busy with a large catering event. I know I should be glad to have the overtime, but I’m getting to that age when I’d just as soon go home.
I think I was born at that age.
Home from soup 'n sammich. 'Twas good! We had a good sized crowd and enough food that nobody had to drag home any leftovers but everyone had plenty. WIN-WIN!
MetalMouse congrats on the new wheels!
I have enough pimento cheese left over (I purposely saved a bit) to make two or three sammiches. One of life’s great pleasures is a pimento cheese sammich and a glass of milk. One of the best N.O.L.es of my childhood.
I’s tahrd! OYKW is upon the bed with the teevee on and I shall join him shortly. I think sleep will not be long in showin’ up.
Nitey Nite Y’all!
